How bad was Vekic....
I know conditions are tricky, but so many missed first serves and unforced errors

I thought Donna Vekic played most of the good shots, typically delightful drop shots, and nearly all the horrible shots too. Harriet was steady, apart from when slipping on the grass.

Heather had a MTO at 5-4.

She did well to win that set

But her leg is heavily strapped now, and she seems to be in a bit of discomfort between points, not a smiley Hev.......

Lily joins Eden as a qualifier, great to get two through, maybe more later with Katie B?

Smiley or not, she looked pretty good in the second set, and wins 6-4 6-2

That's a super win for Lily. Beth rather fell apart but credit to Eden.

Heather played some nice tennis, the strapping almost forced her to be aggressive I think?

Heather seemed to dominate the longer rallies. Volynets' high percentage first serve didn't have enough penetration and the placement appeared rather predictable while I was watching.

Have to say that I thought Heather played really well. Very aggressive and moved her opponent around

Yes, I thought so too - Hev looked very determined and applied - quite 'dour' for her, as though she knew she had to buckle down and play the points to win them

As you say, big well done to Lily - she hung in there well, was difficult to beat, Astra looked as though she was slightly injured, and Lily made her feel it
