She appears to be seizing a chance to grab more points away from the grass for now.

She takes the first set today 6-3

There's a nice livestream - Matilda certainly looking very fit, very happy to engage in the long rallies, using the court really well....

But she loses the next set 3-6

It's a real tussle. The two women play almost the same game, both very decent on the clay, I get the feeling the Italian player might be a little fragile at key moments (or maybe I'm just hoping so )

Really strong last set from Matilda, she had the other woman on a bit of string half the time - just dug in, showed no fear of the rallies, and played very good clay court percentage tennis, building her points....

Nice win, 6-3 3-6 6-3, against a woman who clearly likes the clay

It's a battle of the juniors.

Not sure if Matilda is one of the LTA favoured few at the moment. Anyway she has  done well biggrin

Wildcard of some sort should be on offer - if she needs it.

She got a QWC last year IIRC but there was some speculation here of a possible rift with the LTA.

Matilda is scheduled to be in qualifying in Italy next week. I suppose it depends how she does here if she igoes unless she has to actually sign in earlier.

Caserta is near Naples, so a bit of a journey. Sign-in is by phone on Saturday though, so she has a bit of time.

Given the weight of Palicova's shots, and assuming that carries on, she may well be done and dusted pretty soon....
