Enjoying watching a little of Isabelle Lacy - I'd expected her game to suit grass well - am I right that her QR1 wins at the 25ks earlier this year didn't get her any points? So if she wins this one, it'll be her first counter?

She won a match in the main draw of a $25K earlier this year and also had a first round loss in another $25K (which I think still gave her 1 point), so a win today should give her a ranking.

No she only has 5 points from the first round win. No points anymore for a w25 first round loss.

So she would need to qualify here to get a ranking.

Just realised Sabine Lisicki in the draw against Bains if she is fit she should win

Well, Eliz's serve was passable decent but, honestly, apart from that, she was doing absolutely nothing with the ball. Deserved to lose.

Isabelle, on the other hand, was taking the ball on, constructing points, going for winners too. Deserved to win.

Hence, justice done

Safe to say grass isn't Liz's surface jeezo. But credit to Isabelle.

Isabelle next plays Danielle, so that ensures at least one qualifier.

And that's for 6 points? Goodness, that's a nice one for both smile

Indeed. Isabelle has backed 4 points with her QR1 win but Danielle 0 yet with her bye.

This qualifying event doesn't seem as high powered as you might expect from a W100, particularly as the first two seeds have dropped out. I wonder if some players have decided to give the whole grass season a miss this year now that Wimbledon provides no points.

I have been thinking exactly the same thing

I don't know if it's allowed but if you were Dani and you found out your first round opponent had dropped out, wouldn't you be straight on the phone to your nearest mate with a racket and say, "please, come and play, I'll pay for your inscription, just give me a match" NB I don't mean 'give' the match as in not play it properly, but just make there a match so she can win it fair and square and get her 4 points?

Nice thought, but since the match was on the OOP when I looked this morning there probably wasn't enough time, and no-one available signed in on site.

Lulu Sun tried SO hard to give the win to Emily App

But Emily turned down a 4-1 lead in the first set, playing some horrid tennis.

And then played really well to take the second (Lulu was surprised she was still there, I reckon)

And had two MPs in the MTB, but couldn't take either.....

No idea who's coaching Emily, and the whole Sky thingy, and whether it's doubles only or not.

But she has a decent serve and a very good arm - and about the laziest footwork known to mankind - why has no coach done anything about it???
