Will be interesting to see how Sonay does against a Top 100 player for the first time.
Not well. She lost 3-6 4-6
Hardly that badly scoreline-wise vs the WR 57 .
Though it does appear that it was maybe more of an opportunity than that ranking suggests and Sonay might have got more our of that match.
Sorry Indiana . I don't really understand this. Are you saying that she played well? A top 100 player can be anyone fron 1 to 100 and if she is given a wildcard
for Wimbledon then she would meet someone from that category and on grass. From what we have seen so far she needs more practice on the grass and against
top ranked players before we can make our minds up.
I think she did fine. She showed flashes of excellence but didn't sustain it. But Brengle reached 3R at Wimbledon last year, and played well here. I think Sonay has already earned her MDWC, but she could certainly improve a lot on the surface, and I'm sure she will by the time the main draw rolls around. I don't think you necessarily need to be able to win a round to earn a wildcard, in any case - you need to be able to compete and not be outclassed. I think Sonay showed today that she will be able to compete.
In response to your post, DF, I merely suggested that it looked as if Sonay had played "hardly that badly" against the WR 57 and then added a 'though' paragraph suggesting that it looked as if she might have got more out of it . So nothing more than that
"well or "good" was not mentioned. I didn't see the match and was merely picking up from the scoreline and others' comments.
Yeah, Indy, I just understood you to mean that for a player ranked 280-ish to 'only' lose by 3 & 4 to a player ranked 60-ish, that's quite a decent score. In and of itself. Nothing to do with wildcards for Wimbly or anything, and what level she'll need IF she gets one.
I don't buy off on the various people who said that Stevanovic was excellent or even really good.
I was there and honestly couldn't watch half of Harriet's match - it was just SO frustrating (and life's too short....)
So I managed 15 mins courtside in the second set and 15 mins in the third, having kept an eye on the first from afar.
Harriet only has herself to blame. It was feeble. Enough said.
I did wonder, though, whether she found the crowd support rather intimidating. I know that sounds weird, she's used to crowds etc. But the crowds are so close to the players on that court, you could reach out and touch the players at the change of ends, and the crowd was very noisy (which is good, in general) and quite a lot of anti-feeling to Stevanovic too, it was pretty raucous for Surbiton. Basically SO much pressure. And Harriet just seemed to take it all in a rather negative way, she looked down on herself, went for the rather hangdog (what am I doing? How did I miss that? sort of moaning) and though she tried to gee herself up, she had the look of a rabbit in the headlights. She seemed to me as though she was looking up in the air, or down at the ground, basically away from the crowds. Whereas the Serbian woman had a real positive vibe going on, liked the crowd animosity, she thrived on the conflict, and - as said before against Talia - what struck you was how aggressive and upbeat she was in her presence on the court, more than the actual tennis. In short, she played well but she was basically feeding off the lack of conviction and self-belief of Harriet.
Lovely to see Jodie do well
It wasn't the greatest match - Jodie's UEs are pretty dire - but as said before, you know you'll get some good chances in first round grass court events, especially when it's the first grass event. And the Chinese woman really didn't seem happy on grass. But Jodie did very well to nail it - especially in the second when everyone who's ever followed Jodie had their heart in their mouths. Really pleased for her.
Isabelle's performance was honourable, given her age. As someone else said, a little one-dimensional. And things to work on. But a good week for her, end of. Jeremy Bates courtside once again though.....
Van Uytvanck was playing very well. Alycia Parks was looking SO drop dead glam. All in all, a wonderful afternoon and evening (apart from Harriet which we'll just have to put down as one to forget).

Stevanovich just won 0&2 in one hour 5 minutes versus a player Ranked 160 so all considering I think young Talia gave her a good match for her first outing on the grass having missed out last year due to injury. Also makes Harriets result look not so bad after all. Seems this surface suits her style of play.
Em and Ingrid lose the MTB to the third seeds. Real shame actually, was a good match. Ingrid double faulted on the deuce point to lose the second and then it just ran away.
What is the situation with Jodies singles? One site suggests its cancelled, others say it should have started at 2 pm? Is it still on , anyone know ?
I was wondering that. The ITF site says it's scheduled on court 1 after Jack and Ryan, but there's no sign of it on live scores. The round 1 match of her opponent finished hours ago.
Buzarnescu-Bolkvadze was scheduled first on 7 but has never happened either. It'd be very weird not to wrap up the R16 today, especially with rain forecast on Sat and Sun.
Edit - actually I think I see her on court next to Lissey and Sam?

It has been played, just the scoring is playing up. Jodies match is happening you can see her in the corner of one of the other streams.
Re Jodie, I was assuming the delay was simply because the Ukranian girl's match this morning with Lisicki went to a third-set TB so she needed her 90 mins rest, no?
PS I don't agree with Tennisdad that Stevanovic's result today makes Harriet's play yesterday any better, it just was poor, and she had so many ways and chances to win, end of, IMO.
