Week 19 - ITF W25 - Nottingham, GB Hard

Main draw is up. And doubles: Sonay in doubles with Freya. Maybe she looked at the debate on here?

Edit: sorry hadn't noticed or remembered she was in doubles last week. So the advice was to keep on doing doubles rather than start doing it.

Eliz has just lost to Alice. Very poor result for her though I guess it's a good one for Alice.

Yeah, I'd say that sums it up. Eliz will be disappointed, they've had some close matches in the UKPL over the past couple of years, but it was 4-2 Eliz H2H heading into it, and Alice was 3.25 or 9/4 at Bet365, so a fairly clear underdog. A couple of tougher (main) draws previously, but Eliz has not had the best time in Nottingham these past 5 weeks or so, just the one win yesterday in her 3 home W25 events.

Might be a tricky one for Eden - Wong has beaten Maia, Anna and Jodie in recent weeks, and taken Lily to 3 tight sets. And if she wins she likely faces the top seed...
Unlucky draw for Maia too as she begins her comeback. 3 wins will be a decent haul here I think.

As an aside, I didn't realise that we have another run of 5x25ks coming up immediately post-Wimbledon! We really are being spoiled. (Although I note they are not yet on the ITF tournament calendar so we'll see...)

Maia, Freya and Emma Wilson look like they have wildcards - not sure on the 4th. Mimi presumably has used up her wildcards.

But you're entitled to an extra wildcard if you win in a previous tournament playing under a wildcard, no?

So Mimi must have an extra one after last week, no?

That said, I'd be very happy if she took a break......

Restricted by age - according to Lambda

Hep has the wildcard

Well, glad to see that Maia has a wildcard.

Which slightly puts pay to the anti-LTA argument of them being ageist and/or anti-Scottish, as per Anna Brogan, no?

(Not that I have any interest in protecting the LTA but.....)

Not really. Maia's wild card is a feed up WC for winning the UKPL week 4. But she would probably have got it anyway given her ranking has suffered due to her lengthy time out because of illness

I think it may indeed be the dared to drop out the system for a few years thing with Anna. Even the LTA may have some empathy with being out with long covid.

I certainly don't think that there is any anti Scottish issue nor have I noticed any suggestion of such.

Then I take it back biggrin and accusations can fly again !

Thanks, Lambda

(and, yes, Indy - I think it's very much due to the 'we invested so much time and energy in you and then you quit' sour grapes - although (as we've gone through already) I'm not convinced about absolute level either)

I think that Gabby Knutson's two postgraduate years at Durham could also qualify her to be highlighted as an almost-Brit. Should be a great game between two pairs who have won British 25's this year.
