Escobedo out, so Jay (3) and the number eight seed the only seeds left in the tournament. Couldn't be a much better chance for Jay.

QF: (3) Jay Clarke WR 191 beat Roberto Quiroz (ECU) WR 333 (CH 172 in 2019) 6-3 6-4

SF: (3) Jay Clarke WR 191 vs (8) Rinky Hijikata (AUS) WR 253

Rinky has reached the SF for the loss of only 8 games, and only 3 games dropped in his last two matches.

Rinky is due to play Nottingham Week 4 the week after next, assuming he is still coming over. Presumably ahead of hitting the British grass season. Quite a few Aussies in the field in week 4.

Career high is 153 and Jay could get back to top 160. Which would surely be a massive boost for him.

Jay is a double break up and serving for first set at 5-2. Time for bed for me but hope he keeps this going !

Well he takes the first set, 6-2, so let's hope he can continue the level.

Wow, wasn't expecting that. Rinky had skated through the week up until now but Jay iced him last night wink

Good luck for the final!

More good news is that he was playing pretty well, almost back to his best of a couple of years ago. Much more variety in his shot selection, mixing it up with slice, coming to the net, some lovely drop shots and a couple of gorgeous top spin lobs. Let's hope this match gives him some confidence going into the final but, whatever, it's been a good week and will start to put him back up the rankings.

Anyone know any backstory to this sudden but very welcome return to form? Can't think that he's strung a couple of wins together since he lost to Jack in one of the Forli finals. Has his coaching situation been sorted?
