Boys & Girls: J2 Aldershot, Outdoor hard (Week 17)

J2 this week with some of our top juniors entered including Hannah K

Potential for some big ranking jumps as G2 get points for making main draw, so lower ranked and wildcards will benefit.

Qualifying starts tomorrow

Quali wildcards to:

James Beaven, Zechariah Hamrouni and Luca Bluett

No wildcards at all in the girls. Just from the inscriptions, I guess.

And one of the players has withdrawn but not been replaced

QR1 results coming in.
Of note, a nice win by Alaia Rubio Perez (who had to retire in her final last week) over the Q6 seed.
And a win for 13 year-old Leticia Romanova, as well as 14 year-olds, Isabella Wong and Ciara Moore

FQR girls now established.

One guaranteed MD place, with Erin (age 15) playing Alaia (age 17) (as above)

Also Brooke Black (age 14) is in the FQR, as is Hannah Smith (age 18)

The main draw is out.

Wildcards are:

Ben Gusic Wan, Henry Searle, Kyle Hughes and Jamie Diack

Given, Ava Williamson and Ruby Cooling

Very pleased for Ruby - as said before, I think a lot of her

Obviously, Hannah's absence may be seen as a little strange but I think she might still simply be recovering from the a pretty intensive March and April and actually catching up on some schoolwork ! After all, she's going to have a busy May/June coming - got to get that school stuff done at some point and no point over-doing it - she doesn't need the ITF points.

Given has a nice draw against Nao who she thrashed last week, so should get another big ranking jump.

Obviously at G2 you get good points for entry in round 1

A puzzle. Why have so many British girls withdrawn from this tournament. There are 18 junior boys in the Main Draw and only 12 junior girls representing the country at a domestic high level tournament. There are a number of LWQ and PFLWQD and PFLWMD (including Hannah)

Very kind draw for Given as Nao ranked 675. Isabelle again too but is a seed so not unexpected. Sarah Tatu has the toughest playing seed 1 first match but has advantage  of being used to the courts. Several players here still from last week should benefit from this.

Bottom half of the draw has the weight of the GB players with Mimi, Talia and Hephzibah. With Talia drawing the short straw with first round opponent only 4 ranking places below her at 210, should she win that match she then faces seed 2 who has better recent form than seed 1 and Having just won a cat 3 all in 2 sets.

The boys have some equally kind first rounds with Henry Jefferson as a LL playing another LL.  Hugo Coquelin has it tough playing seed 1 first round, tough when hes much higher ranked than lots of the other players. But at least the split of our top juniors is weighted more fairly in the two halves with Patrick, luca and Phoenix in the top half and Will Jansen, Louis and Hugo in the bottom.

R1:

An excellent win for Freddy Blaydes over the 6th seed, ranked 138 and previously top-100

Henry Searle lost 4 & 4

Lucky Loser Henry Jefferson got a win too, taking advantage not only of his LL spot but the draw too (against another LL, as Tennisdad said above)

Henry's 18pts will replace his lowest counter and his ranking may increase slightly. Freddie and Henry now have at least 36pts this week which will see a rankings jump for both.
