I think she was injured quite a lot and maybe another reasons why shes only doing doubles. Would seem a bit of a shame otherwise.
I don't think so.
They're have been a lot of articles, some behind paywalls, where Ali's talked about making a strategic decision to switch to doubles, partly after having chatted and following advice from Jamie Murray, apparently.
She says she really wants to be top-100 and be a role model for women and she can't see herself doing it in single but doubles stands a decent change and so she's chosen to go for it.
Im aware of the above article but Im sure that was all a decision made after injuries before.
I keep an eye on the Scottish players more closely than the others, we shall also see what happens with Anna Brogan who you dont think is a top 500 player and see how that pans out.

Me too and that's why I'm afraid I also don't see Anna as currently a top 500 player. She would need to generally step up a fair bit.

Sure, you might be right but I haven't seen anything about Ali's injuries (or not more than any others) and I followed her quite a lot when she was with Nik Slater and because I saw her play live a couple of times as a 15 year-old, or whatever - the ones you see live always stick in your mind more, I reckon.
And I wish Anna well Saw her play live too as a mid-teenager - yes, she's not my pick for top-500 but I do think that application and perseverance plays a huge part - that's not meant disparagingly - what I mean is that it's always been a big gripe of mine that the LTA don't promote the industry of pro tennis, and therefore don't allow players to carry on. And as the French players show, you can be quite a normally talented 18 year-old player - but if you hang around, keep working on it, giving yourself the chance, a whole chunk of them make top-500 eventually, at mid or late 20s. Now, the LTA might not think that's interesting (I think they're wrong based on the ripple effects it creates, if nothing else). But if Anna is still giving it her all, she may well be top-500. But I don't think she's a shoo-in and, based on how many of our players quit, I don't think the UK really gives much support to allow her to have the time to get there so, yeah, I don't think she will. But may well be 100% wrong and she wins a 15k title next week !

In the case of Anna of course not just could she with the right support develop quite a bit further from where she is now, her CH of 574 is from when she was 17 indicating a player who at that time looked on a trajectory to easily be a top 500 player and who knows quite how high.
It would be great if she can stay with it now and really progress again. But to repeat IMO she remains currently generally a fair bit short of top 500 level.
