Boys & Girls: J4 Aldershot, Outdoor hard (Week 16)

Qualifying has started today and given it is Easter weekend, a disappointing qualifying entry list, especially on the girls side.

Aldershot not been used for a while, seems to be in favour.

Yeah, I thought the boys looked OK - some new names, and doing well - congrats, for instance, to Angus Howard who put out the Q2 seed who, I assume, is Kate Mansfield's brother.

Shame to see BYES though - it seems very sad when you can't fill a quali draw in juniors

Byes in the girls, too, and only one foreign player (who has now lost)

the acceptance list for both girls and boys looks quite strong though for a J4

Good stuff

Interesting to see how this crop do this week. Quite a few names Im not familiar with. Would be nice too see another young talent come through.

Particularly pleased to see the victories of: Sarah Copley, Daniela Piani and Giulia Lesa.

Lois Newberry, though, gets win of the day, beating Flora Johnson (second seed) who, to be honest, wasn't that impressive last week in the nationals.

Nice wins too for Emma Cohen and and qualifier Yvonne Subev.

And wildcards Ciara Moore and Erin Pearce

And Given, Millie, Saran Tatu and Ellie B (as well as Fran S)

And the biggest win, I reckon, is for Kryan Magimay - beating the top seed

Girls

Wins for Sarah Tatu, Given and Lois, as well as those reported by paulisi above.

So 6 out of 8 of the QFs are GB players

Boys

Kyle beat the second seed (as paulisi said).

And also wins for Henry Searle, Oliver Bonding, Kyran, and Oliver Hague

So 5 out of 8 GB guys into the quarters

Excellent result for one of my little faves, Daniela Piani, over top seed, Sarah Tatu (who is a useful player herself)

Poor Ellie B had to retire - hope she's OK

Emma Cohen also retired (she had a really long match yesterday) which gives a win to Given

Lois lost in three sets

So for the semis, we have:

Daniela v Marelie Raath (RSA)

Given v Nao Nishino (JPN)

Good to see Given pushing on after a poor start to the season. Having seen Nao, Given should be too good for her.
Given is now 17, so good to see her progressing and hopefully moving on to see if she can adapt to main tour in the near future.

Kyran and Oliver Hague missed out on semi finals, other results not posted yet, but interesting to note Oliver Bonding scoring heavily in singles, but can hardly get a win in doubles at the moment.
Mind you, it never impacted Emma R who I suspect may have only ever played a handful of doubles in her lifetime
