Week 16 - WTA500 - Stuttgart, Germany Clay

Gosh, Iga has been putting in some hard work in the gym - she's a lot more cut than she used to be

 And now two smile

Although those balls of Iga's as SO heavy....

But Emma's first serve has been scoring her quite a few points

Well, she's made four games, so I'm doing OK

But paulisi is right in that it wasn't close, Emma was pretty battered in that set, but served well.

Emma 4-6 *0-0
The percentage of points won on Emma's 1st and 2nd services crept up as the set progressed ending at a respectable 63% and 43%. However she is not making any inroads on Iga's service at 89% and 80% on 1st and 2nd services.

Well, that was unexpected. After being broken in the 1st game of the 2nd set Emma breaks back to love.

Not watching it, but the best clay courter at the moment v a novice on clay should always be a mismatch.

I dont expect her to win but think she's probably playing as well as I've seen her this year. Now has a MTO though

Two more break points for Emma but she couldn't take one this time.

Definitely encouraging signs here going forward. Probably the best I've seen her play this year too.

QF2: RADUCANU, Emma (GBR) (8) 12 lost to SWIATEK, Iga (POL) (1) 4-6 4-6

Two more break points for Emma but not to be.
Considering she was playing the world number 1 on her favourite surface, a surface that Emma had little experience of, I thought that was a very encouraging performance, particularly as she seemed to be getting into the match more and more the longer it went on.
