Week 16 - WTA500 - Stuttgart, Germany Clay

Very confused by the wta ranking points logic. How can a round one win be worth 55 points and then a round 2 win only gain an additional 45 points ? Surely a round 2 win should always be higher rated as it is theoretically a bigger achievement and a harder step?

Makes no logical sense to me!

 itf 25K   R1 5 points  R2  5 + 4 = 9

not just wta JonH

gosh - is it just me or does that seem an illogical way of rewarding progression through an event, and merit of performance as well?

Well it is the WTA rankings whether the WTA are awarding them for WTA tour or ITF tournaments and yes some general illogicality there.

The Slam qualifying points go 2 ( for turning up ), 20, 30, 40; ( and used to go 2, 40, 50, 60 )

I guess bigger things to worry about right now, but I do wonder what their thinking is in that structure

If Emma wins today she next plays Iga Swiatek. I don't think Emma has played a reigning world number 1 before so it will be and interesting test to see how close she is to challenging for the top spot.

I don't think we'll learn an awful lot from a match against Iga right now - unless Emma has an exceptional day.

Iga is in tremendous form and has won 19 matches in a row (inc BJK), the last twelve in straight sets, and only Halep and Pegula have managed four games or more in a set.
If Emma gets four games in a set I'll be happy,

I think she should aim to win a game.

Sakkari has retired against Siegemund, so Emma's match is about to start.

Yes I will be quite impressed if it's at all competitive. If Emma does reach that match she will be up to live #11 but got to think at the moment that Iga would then probably be in a different league here.
