They are ageist, it's sure. But I don't think that's why with Anna. After all, Lauryn and others have had wildcards and she's a similar age.
I think Anna is out of favour simply because she got a fair bit of attention as a youngster and then chucked it all in
The LTA sulk. They don't like it.
Mind you, i don't rate Anna that highly either so I have no real problem in practice this time

Anna is comfortably a top 500 player, a lot of the WC awards going to players who wont even trouble the top 1000. Its defo the stuffed shirts at the LTA at play here. Another example of how elitist a sport it is in this country.

I wouldn't agree that Anna is comfortably a top 500 player. In general that has not been her level since she came back.

Very decent scoreline in the match here vs Jodie but one match and against a very inconsistent player.

Be great if she can push on to that higher level.

I'm not sure Anna is 'comfortably' a top 500 player.

But you may well be right.

And I seriously hope you are.

I don't think any of the MD wildcards have been given to people who will never even threaten the top 1000

(and, remember, some are thanks to UKPro wins, or Tour wins, etc)

Did you have any in mind? Maybe I've missed someone....

NB I'm not defending the LTA (heaven help!)

But I'm sure Anna's main problem is coz she dropped out and has now come back.

I'm hoping for a surprise from Fran D or Adeola

And maybe even a GB qualifier in that part...

Still no wild card for Anna

 Usual LTA ageist policy!

Except that is against the law now. Dan Cox has had wildcards in his 30's.

It may be a case that that the wildcards have been taken up by the reward system - I.e junior nationals and pro series.

Against the law?!  Nonsense in respect of discretionary awards in general given to younger players. I very much doubt that it would be against the law even if official 'policy'

Madeleine Brookes, 25 year old, whoever she is, was way out of her league.

She lost 0-6 0-6

 Why do you say 'now'?

The Equality Act 2010 came into force in 2012 and specifically has age as a protected characteristic

i.e. age discrimination is illegal in circumstances where the Act applies

That's a while back now

BUT - even IF the Act applies, which it doesn't to everything - there are many exceptions listed, both under general headings (as in 'when there is objective justification') AND under specific exceptions, such as - wait for it - sport !

Just for the record the objective of wild card policy is
ITF 15K and 25K Women's events: to give high potential young players 21 and under (normally Men's and Women's Programme (MWP) players the opportunity to compete at the entry stage of the Pro Circuit and / or to reward players who have had good results and are on an upward ATP / WTA ranking trajectory.

Additionally, unlike men, because of the limits on wild cards women have, they have to submit a request for a wild card to be considered. Perhaps Anna isn't requesting wild cards?
