Week 14 - WTA250 - BOGOTA, Colombia Clay

That was diabolical. She was pretty good on the clay against Slovakia last year so surprised at how out of her depth she looked. Oh well.

It can only get better in the 2nd?

I suppose you could say it did ... twice as many games won.

Not like Harriet to have an off day as bad as that (at least not these days), but everyone has them sometimes. I hope it doesn't suggest she's carrying an injury.

I'm expecting a short lived stay in the top 100 with performances like that.

Well Harriet has already surpassed Mel South's 1 week in the top 100

I think Harriet must have been the 1st British woman to play main draw singles in Bogota. Certainly Jo and Heather never played there. Harriet was in good company as only the top 3 seeds survived the first round. Because of a fall from grace neither Errani nor Yastremska were seeded and the 4th seed Udvardy  had no wins on the main tour in 2022. There were also unfamiliar names winning their first matches on the WTA tour such as the player who beat Harriet.   I notice in the last 16 that Errani, Haddad and Yastremska have all  had suspensions from tennis for testing positive for banned substances.

Indeed, Harriet is the first British woman to play main draw in Bogota. There have been 5 British women in qualifying there before: Lara Fakhoury (2005), Anna Smith (2009), Robyn Beddow (2012), Jo Konta (2013) and Tara Moore (2016). Robyn and Jo got through to Q2.

Great for Tara and Emina to win a round. If its any consolation to Harriet, Elina A dismissed her next opponent 6-2 6-2.

Good stuff

They have a good MTB record together.. I make it that they have won 14 of the 20 MTBs they have played since the start of last year.

Tara currently showing as live #103 with Emina live #100.

A SF win would ensure that they both enter the top 100 next Monday.
