Interesting first match for Harriet. Elina did a lot of winning last year and massively improved her ranking, and has had a reasonably solid start to the year. I've noticed her results but haven't actually seen her play, so should get the chance this week. She's 19.

I believe this is the first time Harriet has been seeded in a WTA draw. According to Tennis Abstract, she's the highest ranked player never to have made a WTA SF, they don't include QF's in their records, but Harriet hasn't made one of those either, so a real good chance of doing that here - I think her potential R2 match looks kinder on paper than her opener.

Harriet would play Stefanini (159) for a place in the QF if she were to win her R1 match tomorrow. The Italian has just beaten Papamichail.

About as bad as Ive ever seen Harriet play sadly. Granted this is clay and shes not a natural, but poor serving and terrible finishing of the point on the short ball has cost her. It can only get better in the 2nd?

Yep, can't see the likes of Vondrousova, Martincova etc. opting to join the higher profile Czech players on the sidelines after watching this. Next weekend could be grim.
