There's not really much technical work that can be done for Heather at this stage. What she needs is to feel happy, relaxed and confident off court, and be able to bring that enjoyment on to it so she's able to be more aggressive and less fraught and down. It's why just now travelling with a friend makes quite a bit of sense to me. She's never going to be top 40 again, but a couple of final years in the top 80 getting some good results and picking up good paychecks is not to be sniffed at. She's given a lot to the game, and us as fans, that if she doesn't appear to be investing tens of thousands a year back into her game coaching wise I'm not overly concerned really.

Heather has ensured  along with Jo that GB has  had a regular presence in the main singles draws  of the Grand Slams in the last decade. Also remember that  in 2012 Heather won our first WTA singles  title  for 24 years and her 4 WTA singles  titles matches the number Jo won.

Precisely.

Anyway, back to business. She does get the lucky loser spot and plays Claire Liu.

I wonder how much Heather has been able to monetise her longevity. Shes been at the top of the British game for a long while, she is articulate and a woman of colour in an era when sponsors value that
More than in years gone past, I hope shes been able to have some decent endorsements over her career - anyone know if shes done ok out of it all financially?

She did have that sanitary towel ad a couple of years ago.

Heather has done some ads for Guernsey as well. And she did win a mixed doubles slam at Wimbledon.

Shes won $4.6m to date, plus endorsements plus she will have been funded when she was younger so not all of that will have needed to be spent on travelling/coaching costs. I doubt shell retire rolling in it but she should have a base for whatever she wants to do with the rest of her life

IIRC Ms. Watson was sponsored by Statoil at one point.

Heather is on 2nd today. The 1st match is about half way through the first set so Heather should be on about 4.30.

Very disappointing, Heather fortunate to get two bites of the cherry but nothing to show for it.

Watched the 2nd set and she was really poor, particularly on serve. I think that type of grey clay isnt the best to play on you dont see many winners on it.

Two very poor results in a row for Heather. Not really sure what the strategy was in coming here. More chance of points and winning some matches in Bogota.
