Big scare for top qualifying seed Kyle Hughes who dropped the first set 6-4 to Ilias Hirani Worthington, and had to come from 5-0 down in the match tiebreak to win it 10-8

I assume this will change for the MD but not impressed that there are no umpires in the chair and the players are calling their own lines

As said, assume they'll have them for the MD - they certainly did last year at Surbiton - but I think it's a bit disrespectful to the players - I know kids often call their own lines but this is the National Championships, for goodness sake.

That's awful - that's my two faves out of the whole lot, drawn together in R1 ::((

AND the winner plays Jamie Diack in R2 who's my 'third' fave of that lot....

Young Ben has qualified - but now plays the top seed Will Jansen - who lost to Luca in recent events but still has been playing quite well

Kyle, Viktor and Jonah Gethin are the other qualifiers

Will and Luca are third and fourth on the streamed court 5, while court 3 has Phoenix fb Louis, should that be streamed.

Phoenix Weir had to retire towards the end of second set, lost the opener 6-0. That's a shame for him.

Henry Searle now plays qualifier Viktor Frydrych, big opportunity for one of them

Luca won a tough battle with Fabio, similar to last year when they played at Surbiton in the same event. Seem well matched

Will won 10 of the first 11 games, but was pegged back by Ben, and needed a tiebreak to come through. Next up for him is Hugo Coquelin, who he double bagelled in Loughborough. The quarter-finals resolve as

(1) William Jansen v Hugo Coquelin
Henry Searle v (Q) Viktor Frydrych
(Q) Jonah Gethin v (4) Luca Pow
Yujiro Onuma v (2) Louis Bowden

I think Luca Pow might be the favourite to win this event, given his recent form.

Am hoping to see a little of Jonah as he's the only one I've never seen play.

Henry v Viktor (the two 2006-ers) is my match of interest - Viktor has a lot of extraneous movement going on in his forehand - it's a rather weird shot now - but he plays a decent game.

Henry impresses me but would like to see more.

Will Jansen came into his own in the nationals last year - won the title despite being an outsider.

But that was on grass which suits his game more.

In that way, the nationals at Surbiton last year served a far better grass court warm-up and predictor for useful wildcards.

Looks like you will be unlucky, as the only boys matches on the streamed courts are Will (Ct 3) and Louis (Ct 5) cry
