Loughborough Junior Boys and Girls G3 - week 12

Back to back G3 at Loughborough and very similar fields to last week.

Qualifying starts today.

Hannah Klugman is entered and presumably has another main draw wildcard.

Congrats to Alice Wilson-Marsh (a new name to me) who is only 13 and has just beaten the q4 seed, 2 & 2

Q2 seed, Jaquelyn O lost to the elder Popescu sister

Very easy win for 14 year-old Brooke Black

14 year-old Sarah Copley (who is a decent player, mentioned before) also put out Hannah Smith (q5)

Maria Ustic, another 14 year-old doing well, also won

Am assuming that Daniela, Ruby and Amalia do too

Pleased to see that both Brooke Black and Sarah Copley have won through to the FQR, both born in 2007 and decent prospects.

2006 born Amelie Brooks also won, and 15 year-old Erin Pearce too

Yeh !

Alex Okonkwo does it again - this time taking out the Q2 seed

Wins too for Luke Hooper and Kyran Magimay

In the girls, in the 2007-er GB battle, Maria Ustic beat Fran Simpson.

Paulina J also got a win

The four qualifiers in the girls are:

Paulina J, Brooke Black, Amelie Brooks and Erin Pearce

So that's 4 GB girls

Imogen Haddad also gets in as a LL

The wildcards pretty much as expected went to Hannah, Daniela, Ruby and Mia Wainwright

The four qualifiers in the boys are:

Kyran Magimay, Luke Hooper, Jonah Gethin and Ben Gusic Wan

So, again, all four are GB

And Alex Okonkwo gets in as a LL

Only three wildcards, seemingly, which go to Henry Jefferson, Oliver Bonding & Charlie Robertson,

A very good morning for the GB boys - 8 matches and 8 GB wins all against foreign opposition.

Particularly good for 2007 youngster Oliver Bonding (I think he's now at Loughborough Academy)

The 100% record hit a snag as Freddie Ridout lost, as did LL Alex O, 4-6 in the third

But Henry Jefferson did add another GB win over foreign opposition today, 7-5 in the third set.

Flippin' marvellous

Little fave, Daniela Piani (born 2007) has just beaten the 3rd seed - age 17 and junior ranked about 215 in the world.

Took three sets, and a third-set tie-break that probably gave her poor parents a stomach ulcer - but she won:

6-2 6-7(4) 7-6(9)

She was drawn against Hannah in R1 last week, which is really unfortunate (but got a set off her).
She's obviously not at all in the same group as Hannah (as in world number one )
But she's been putting together some good results and that's a great victory - rest up.

Given Roach (2005) also got a super win over the second seed. 7-5 6-3.

Great to see her getting consistent wins - and that's a stellar one

Assuming Alex Okonkwo is the younger brother of Ollie (student-athlete at Iowa/Illinois)? Assuming Alex maybe planning to head to the US on a tennis scholarship? Sporty family as his other brother James is on a basketball ball scholarship at WVU.

A lot of very tight matches in the girls, most of which went against us:

On the plus side, as well as Daniela and Given, we also have Hephzibah who beat the 4th seed.

And Millie Skelton beat the 5th seed.

And Hannah Klugman won too.

But lots of pretty narrow losses too, which is a shame.

Only 5 left in, in the last 16 now

They played last week, too, in R1, with Hannah winning in three

Yep, the boys certainly had a better day...

Youngsters Ben GW and Oliver Bonding caused upsets and progress into QF
Hannah K also had a comfortable win.
