I'd agree that I think it was more a match-up problem than a follow-up problem.
Yes very much my view from what I saw. Frustrating as I don't think she'd have had trouble with a lot of other options there and would have fancied her in the final round. Qualifier slots are also much more friendly here than IW. But oh well.
Harriet is in the main draw for Bogota and very close to a seeding. So not sure if she will do Marbella. But it's a long fortnight to hand around over the Atlantic now so schedule may well change.

It looks like, she has indeed withdrawn from Marbella
If Heather could beat Rus she would play Svitolina . Svitolina is not at her best these days. As far as qualifying is concerned there are on paper some useful players here. That includes Harriet, Martic, Juvan,Claire Liu, Yastremska, Kalinskaya ,Qiang Wang, Bouzkova. This is a more impressive list than some of the players in the main draw. . Heather might be glad she is not in qualfying.
I think I put a curse on the qualifiers as the first 3 names on the list Harriet, Martic and Juvan all lost in the 1st round of qualifying.
The first 5 named failed to win a match (including 2 retirements ) and the last 3 got through the first round of qualifying. Hard luck for Harriet.
She did well to recover from 1-4 down in this set. Saved two break points but not a third. She's probably just about the better player but not when it counts.
My gosh. A pretty bad dropper does enough to get the break.
Two nicely placed first serves are unreturned. Two tentative first served and weak rally shots leave it 30-30. She then plays a frightened point, going for some weird mid court slice stab when she had an open court to drive into. Rus easily gets to it but stays central and Heather manages to come up with a miss hit volley winner.
