P&O Ferries

Note to self - make sure to never book with P&O again when taking a ferry, or to use any of DP World's companies if at all possible.

Outrageous behaviour - the way not to manage. PR disaster

The UK workers were fired but the EU workers (mostly Dutch/French) were not. Why ? Because the ferries were re-registered under a Cypriot flag in 2019 and therefore EU workers are protected by EU legislation.

Yes the EU workers are protected by EU laws, but not because of where the vessels are registered. They are protected because they have French and Netherlands contracts, whereas those that were dismissed were employed by a Jersey registered company where apparently employment laws are not as strong as in the UK or EU.

My sister is a solicitor and alleges P and O staff have been told to accept anything above the statutory redundancy package ie enhanced compensation . P and Os legal team will have done their homework and allegedly it is cheaper to payoff the current work force and replace them with agency workers. Sad.

I have no idea about the legalities but isn't redundancy meant for when the job is redundant, ie the role is no longer required or can be done with less people? Not for dismissing workers and taking on cheaper replacements.

Not really a humerous situation, but I did giggle at this government incompetence.

Joe Pike (Sky News): It seems like Grant Shapps and Kwasi Kwarteng have written strongly worded letters to a man who resigned as P&O chairman on 16th December 2021

Apparently they have now deleted their tweets about the letter and have now written to the current Chairman.
