Jay broke for *6-5 in the second set.

Then was broken back to 15, lost the TB 3-7, and has been broken in the first game of the third set. Apart from that the last 3 games went very well

6-4 6-7(3) 0-1*

C'mon Jay !

Jay might've been better off where Paul is, in Chile. A challenger being held in the middle of a Masters (or a slam for that matter) is always stacked with those who go out early on.

Yes, although Kovakevic obviously wasn't in the Masters, so it's not like he was one of those highly ranked Masters drop-outs, stacking it up. It's not a great result.....

I dont follow the ins and outs of the points like some of our Board members but two things have struck me re Jay 1) his form generally hasnt been too hot for , I would guess, 18 months or so, for whatever reason. He really hasnt put too many wins together generally 2) despite that his ranking is incredibly close to his career high (166 live versus 153 CH). Indeed, in the Race (albeit 1/4 of season gone) he is 121 live.

He does have 63 points falling off in around 5 weeks, apparently, that would take him down to maybe around 200 unless replaced. Nonetheless, despite my thinking he has had bad form, he seems to have maintained a healthy ranking position, which very much surprises me! Is he holding onto points that he are very old and more will fall beyond the 63 coming off soon?

Essentially, yes, Jay still has 106 counting points in 50% 2019 counters due off from April to August including these 63 points on 18/04 ( August 2021 was when the ATP started clearing everything on their anniversaries ) :

His 347 points at 07/03/22 are split :

2019: 106 ( 6 counters due off April to August 2022 )

2020       0 ( 0 counters)

2021:  156 ( 8 counters due off May to November 2022r)

2022:    85 ( 5 counters fur off January to February 2023 l

So his points earned in the last year are these 2021 and 2022 points, totalling 241 points.

At least Jay is going to Pereira the week after next, where Paul is playing, and then onto the big money clay event in Mexico City the week after that

Thanks Indy - so looked at another way, he has 262 points falling off over the rest of this year of his 347 (which is fair enough) but which he will need to replace. He has 85 at the end of week 10 from this season, so maybe he is on run rate to stay steady (85 x 4 would be 340 over rest of the season, so in line with the 347 he is losing).
