She was looking good at 6-1 *1-0. Missed a couple of game points and totally lost momentum. Garcia very much going for the all or nothing approach. Emma has been pushed way too far behind the baseline, but Garcia is leaking just enough errors to help her out.
First serve has fallen off a cliff. Maybe that hip is hurting a little.
It is a lot like several of her post US Open matches. Good patches, when it's good it's great, but then has patches where she looks to have totally ran out of steam.
2-4*
Garcia is playing better but Emma is allowing her to in a way she wasn't in the first set.
Not convinced Emma will finish this if it goes 3. Croft made a good point in commentary about Emma not being able to sustain the intensity in matches on the Main Tour to date, which is partly an age and experience thing, but it just feels a bit it more than that. She's lost 10-15mph off her serve.
Flat finish to the set. Needed a first serve on one of those game points at *1-0, and she's again found herself in a tough three setter she probably shouldn't have gotten dragged into. Worth remembering the only reason she's got a hip injury is that she failed to close out against Saville in 2 and picked it up in the third there.
Garcia double faults three times on set point. Emma misses break point. Garcia takes #6.
6-1 3-6 *0-0
She's clutching the hip occasionally and really lost focus. Hantuchova right in the analysis, the intensity has gone and she's now totally doubting herself in a way she wasn't at the start of the match. Garcia strong favourite to me now unless Emma can shake herself awake.

The courts are apparently playing very slow in the colder weather and with the wind this week- not too Emmas liking I would feel. Makes it more effort, loses the zip and serve speed (Cressys 26 mph ace was crazy stuff!), and generally not helping her game style at all.

Yes, but Hantuchova fails to take into account that Caro can be a complete headcase too. Even in the second set, the number of double faults on key moments was just ridiculous. She's a great player but you can't trust her to get over the line.
However, nothing's ever done and dusted. Even at 3-0
Sam made a very interesting point, that it's almost like Emma comes out so hard, so intense, so focused, that she sort of burns herself out. And then the adrenaline or whatever starts to fade off she falls away and then needs to find herself again. Might be something in that.
