Emma is apparently facing a late fitness test on the left leg issue that caused her to retire in Guadalajara.
Sounding pretty philosophical about her luck of late with covid, the blister and this injury. Think she's very aware that you can have runs of good and bad luck and she still has so much time on her side. I wouldn't be too surprised if she gives this a miss and aims for Miami.
But anyway, in theory Emma and Harriet play their R2 matches tomorrow.
It was interesting how positive Hantucova was about Katie's performance I thought. A faster court and less wind and she might have stood more of a chance!
I dont see it on the bbc sounds app schedule yet but five live just announced that theyll have live coverage of Sir Andys match followed by Emmas tonight on Five Live Sports Extra
I thought Heather did well for 4 games but then fell away badly and was completely outclassed in the second set where she almost seemed to lose interest and belief. In terms of gaining ranking points she's probably better off having to play qualifying rounds where she might actually win a few matches rather than just tanking in the first round proper each time.
Katie didn't look as good as usual on her serve which maybe to do with the injury but overall her game was pretty one dimensional. There was some good after match discussion on Amazon about the relative lack of movement and variety in her game. Pretty much spot on I think. Beaten by a better player on the day.
I think Harriet actually has a shot tonight. Svitolina's game is all over the place this year and though she's obviously got great ability this year hasn't been great for her. Harriet needs to serve better than she has been on the whole though.
I'm concerned re Emma's fitness. Anything less than 100% tonight and she will have a very hard time of it against a rejuvenated Garcia who must start favourite for me based on experience and current form.
