Week 10/11 - WTA 1000 BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells, California, USA

3 big strikes and she holds from break point down. Good crowd in.

6-5*

Real shame that.

It was really her set. She had several perfect moments for it.

A couple of horrid DFs rather shot herself in the foot (it is windy but all the same).

Xinyu is only 20.

Remember seeing her playing some very good tennis at Roehampton, as a junior. But very tall. Great levers. Good acceleration. But a little flat and awkward at times.

Oh Katie. Loses the breaker 10-8.

Bad double to go down *1-3, pulled it back, the most gorgeous point to go up *5-3, gets a set point at *6-5 and didn't do enough, then double faults, saves a couple of set points but eventually loses it.

Should have nicked that set. Wang was missing a lot of balls long but generally a high quality match. But you can't hit two doubles in a tiebreaker.

Well, she certainly deserved to win that one. Wang was a little messy towards the end. And Katie put in an excellent couple of games towards the end of that set.

Katie hangs tough, and this time closes out the set. Great battle.

Didn't she do well

Really kept it together, kept aggressive, didn't let her misses faze her, and some super serves to close it out (even that DF was a 'decent' one)

Yes she did. I was worried when she kept missing break points but she was serving so well. Great match.

Harriet is making a meal of this cry

Might have done better to play the doubles final,

Now 6-1 *5-5

Harriet got there in the end - allbeit with a lot of thud and blunder - made the trip worthwhile.

6-1 7-5.

L128: (11) Emma Raducanu WR 13 (CH=12 Feb 2022) vs BYE

Plays the winner of Yastremska vs Garcia...not the best draw.

edited for the correction of the round.

All 3 Brits surely have a chance , to the extent theyd be disappointed not to get through. Fingers crossed

Qualifying spots don't look too bad. Subject to making it into MD and Katie staying fit I'd give our 3 slightly better than evens to progress to R2 in most of those matches.
