Shame she couldn't serve it out. But Petra was brave, and ultra positive, coming in and putting her under pressure. Good returns too. She played some super tennis though

Yeah I thought Martic played a very bold game at *5-4. The two returns she missed were only a fraction long too.
Can't really hide from the fact that that is another disappointing result. She's had chances to win two of her recent defeats but seems to lack that killer instinct right now. Yes she's young and yes she's inexperienced but she needs to put together a run of matches something she just can't seem to do either through some terrible results or through injury etc.
Emma's played some good stuff (1st set v Garcia who then basically handed Emma the match in the 3rd set) and even today but, she's simply not as good as her ranking right now. It will be interesting to see how she does in Miami and she desperately needs a kind draw so she can put a couple of back to back wins together. Today feels like a lost opportunity.
If you read the transcript of her round two presser she talks tangentially about her hip injury and recovery concerns and clearly things were not 100% at all at this tournament. She virtually said she took it upon herself to play despite some medical opinions to the contrary. She did very well considering but really could gave done without 3setters in both her matches in my opinion. I doubt she will play Miami.
A sensational tiebreak to win the first set in an otherwise disappointing performance, wasted numerous chances, first serve had no penetration, groundstrokes were patchy, poor backhand errors cost her when serving for the match and then 4 terrible forehand errors to give away her serve to lose the match.
I guess there must be a physical reason why she couldn't blast her serve from time to time. Emma looked exhausted from fairly early in the 2nd set. I was a bit surprised she fought back in the third set only to fail to serve out the match.
Harriet takes the first set 7-6(4) . She was 4-0 up in the TB, but then pegged back to 4-4, before winning the final 3 points. She had to save a couple of SPs at *4-5.
I'm off to bed now, but hopefully wake up to good news.
