Hard for Marni playing the top seed.

But after an early break, just on the scores (no livesstream) the first set was very close, with the Bulgarian finally taking it 6-4

 She lost 4-6 1-6

However she got a counter! Yey!  and will be here for the next two weeks so hopes for more.

Pity, but both were tough matches

To be honest, I don't think Manon can be called a 'tough' match.

She didn't play a single match, I think, in 2021.

Is just coming back, and not doing very well.

She was only 550 or so at best, and that was pretty fully priced.

Can you please explain about Manon. She wasn't seeded for this event and had been showing as ranked 807. Next week's Monastir acceptance list shows her as 583 ( highest ranked player) despite having had very few wins this year. Now this week's acceptance list shows her as 583. Was she not seeded this week in error?

I've no idea about rankings and seedings !!! Sorry, I'm the world's worst.

All I know is that from what I can see, Manon didn't play any events during 2021.

And since 2022, she's only won one MD match up until this week.

So where she's got her points from, I've no idea.........

Presumably the entry list showing 583 is her protected ranking (SR?) that gets her into the draw, but her actual real ranking is much lower and she wont be seeded at all. I dont think she was seeded this week was she, Eliz was 3 but Manon is unseeded.

Yes, the drawsheet on the ITF site shows 'special entry', no doubt meaning a protected ranking based on her ranking before her over year long layoff. I thought the acceptance list indicated such an entry ranking but I don't see it in this case. It just shows the 583 entry ranking.

Protected rankings count for players' position on the entry list but it is their official ranking ( ie currently WR 807 ) that counts for seeding. Hence Manon easily gets in to the MD but is not seeded here.
