Greatest Players of All Time - according to Tennis Abstract

Well, thats reassuring ! Next one tomorrow , I believe.

I started reading the Hingis write up but, to be honest, realised I had zero liking or interest in her, to me she was a narcissistic person who I just never warmed to. So I gave up!

Andy Murray is no.29 and was my no.39.

Hahaha. We knew he was coming, the question was always where!

I love the stats analysis in the write up, Jeff, will need to read properly and take it in.

I had Andy at 49th on my final list, so hadn't rated him quite so highly in the pantheon of all time greats, but great to see him pop up at 29th!

A lovely conclusion, Jeff

"The Wimbledon titles, the French Open final, the second Olympic gold, the 41 weeks at number oneeverything Murray achieved between 2013 and 2017 has merely cemented the reputation he deserved after winning his first major in 2012. Big Three is a useful term for discussing the very greatest players of all time, but if were talking about the era in which they played, the only logical grouping gives us a Big Four.

Murray will always be the junior member of the quartet. But as Djokovi would be the first to tell youpanting, after a five-hour slugfestthe gap between them was never that wide."

I am one of the first to underestimate Andy, my 49th place gives that away. I am glad we have had him, still have him, and hope he eventually gets recognised by the more casual fans as one of the greats!

Thanks Gameover, indeed

Of the current crop of recent players she has the 6th best Peak ELO rating (ie when she was at her actual best). List below doesnt include Serena or Venus as they havent played enough recent matches, but it shows where Simona rates against current players. Azarenka is way up there on Peak ELO, quite amazing (Peak ELO is the final number on each row) as 110 points above the next highest represents a massive shift/advantage for that player

10 Victoria Azarenka 32.6 2009.8 1917.6 1678.1 1563.2 1963.7 1844.0 1786.5 2013 Indian Wells R16 23.6 2325.4
2 Ashleigh Barty 25.7 2180.5 2071.4 1891.4 1773.2 2126.0 2035.9 1976.8 2021 Us Open R64 25.3 2219.7
1 Iga Swiatek 20.9 2205.7 2110.9 1984.3 1583.7 2158.3 2095.0 1894.7 2022 Stuttgart F 20.9 2205.7
6 Naomi Osaka 24.4 2034.9 1977.9 1570.2 1500.0 2006.4 1802.6 1767.5 2021 Miami R16 23.4 2199.4
61 Vera Zvonareva 37.5 1792.5 1682.7 1607.9 1592.3 1737.6 1700.2 1692.4 2009 Miami R64 24.5 2187.0
8 Simona Halep 30.4 2024.9 1919.8 1868.5 1702.7 1972.4 1946.7 1863.8 2015 Stuttgart QF 23.6 2177.6

News of Simona today reminds me she rated at 93rd in the all time list that TA is producing. Hard to fathom the news today , being honest

That Andy lob to win the DC is just perfect. Honestly, it's just perfection.

Edited: I also love how as soon as he can he goes and congratulates the Belgian team

Yes, as I recall, as soon as he'd emerged from the rest of the GB team who had all jumped onto of him.

It looks to me that you and GAMEOVER have pretty much sussed the who. But the precisely where is certainly going to be very interesting.

I think so, weve both got the same 28 players left and 28 spaces to fill.

overall in the top 50 though, Gameover has had the edge on me, had a few more correct names! Dang! But I have one spot on so far so might not win the numbers race but hope to get a few more spot on and win the quality race!

I'm guessing Arantxa Sánchez Vicario is next-ish, and probably Lindsay Davenport soon after. However, the early ATGs like Kramer and Budge are very difficult for me to judge (not to mention someone like Suzanne Lenglen) so I wonder where exactly they fall.

Maybe, I have those two, plus Alice Marble in the womens as my next three women out, and then Don Budge and Kramer like you in the mens. Seems we are in similar positions!

Did not expect Billie Jean to be below Arantxa and Lindsay but here we go. Another nice profile:
