Week 9 - WTA250 - Lyon, France Hard

They lost two deciding points on their opponents serve early in the second.
Thought Olivia looked particularly assured with her smashes. And coming in all the time. Very positive.
Great win.

The Yastremska sisters lost 2 & 4 to Garcia Prez and Knoll (CR404) which isn't a bad performance.

Lily WR206 on the verge of an upset, leading Bodar WR79 5-2* in the final set.

Not British but in the 1st round of the singles Dayana Yastremska  beat Ana Bogdan  3-6 7-6(7) 7-6(7). Survived a couple of match points.

QF:- Alicia Barnett (GBR) / Olivia Nicholls (GBR) CR307 (147+160) v Anna-Lena Friedsam (GER) / Nicola Geuer (GER) ??? (74+UNR??)

Geuer doesn't seem to be ranked at all, which seems a bit strange if she's able to get into the draw.

Geuer has a SR of 123.

Get in, they won every deciding point I reckon, including saving 2 BP in the last game.

Pretty sure they didn't win every deciding point Wolf - I'm gonna have to watch the replay now biggrin

3 deciding points in the 1st set, all won by L&L

4 in the 2nd set, 2 won by each team

Great stuff in the doubles. Lissey and Olivia might even get a Wimbledon WC this year, having I'd say generally been the omission last year that most annoyed the forum with many seeing a good pair who had been held back by injury.

Even only gaining 10 points so far this week ( they are dropping 50 ) they are set for further CHs and are now live ranked 137 and 152 and live GB #4 and #6 respectively with no further points due to drop before late June.

Nice little 60 points so far, but they are dropping points as well (accordong to Coric) so I'll leave it to the gurus to comment on their apparent projected rise in rankings of around 10 places.

Edit:- didn't see indi's post before I wrote this !

As TA wrote - they're in with a shout - also Tara, Eden and SBG to be accounted for - and anybody else who wins in the meantime.

Long time to go yet - what's the cut-off date. confuse

I was actually kinda taking a Wimbledon WC as read for Lissey and Olivia this year.

Great result for Lissey and Liv, hopefully they'll become WTA regulars from now on, although that would probably hurt Alicia's singles ranking.

I don't know which Japanese woman is which but one is very short and she's having a LOT of problem holding serve (been broken twice). And Sam has lobbed her really nicely a couple of times

Sam+ broke, held, got broken back but just broken again to lead

*4-3

Wowzer - couldn't watch the end of that match - left it with Sam+ 2-5 down, I think it was.

But love the way they play together - very calm, very together.

Thrilled for them

Yup, they were a set and *2-5 down, saved a match point at *4-5.

5-7 7-5 10-5 final score.
