Week 9 - WTA250 - Lyon, France Hard

Never quite believed that Lis & Liv were going to win that set, but they put up a very good show and made it close.

Down 5-7

The Brits are playing quite well against a much more experienced pair, but the main difference between the teams is that Olivia's serve has been broken all four times, though she's playing very well at the net and that's been helping Alicia to hold serve a lot more easily.

On French federation coach I know always says: If you can't hold serve in singles, it's coz you can't serve; if you can't hold serve in doubles, it's cox your partner can't volley

First set gone 5-7. Three breaks to two, so lose. Not as good a match as the SF so far.

Could we have a whip-round to buy Zvonereva some decent kit ?

Vera has won nearly $15,000,000 in prize money in her career so she should have enough money to buy a decent kit. Siegmund and Zvonerava won the doubles at the 2020 US Open.

I'm not sure this is true on this occasion. Olivia is weaker off the ground than Alicia (and stronger at the net), and the opponents quickly clocked this - lots of balls targeted at Liv's groundstrokes, with limited opportunities for Alicia to intervene.

Yes a saying which will be true some of the time and not true at other times

Shame about the result but a great WTA debut, hopefully lots more to come in the future.

I assume they still get more points for this than they would for a W25 title?

Katie's match has started. Interesting to hear that she's no longer with Jeremy Bates but with Iain Bates (no relation) full time now.

In the last few days, the LTA have updated Katie's coach on her player profile to be LTA WOMEN'S PERFORMANCE COACHING TEAM, so it looks like Iain isn't her dedicated full-time coach. Now, if only they could update the coach on all the other womens player profiles.
