Ukraine

I'd ban them too.
This is - hopefully - not for long.
Indeed, that's the whole point - put as much pressure as possible, to effect change as quickly as possible.
Of course it penalises innocent, anti-war players.
But there are zillions of innocent, anti-war people in Russia currently being penalised.
That's what sanctions do.
It's an important part of what they're meant to do.

I see that Boris Johnson sunk to new lows today. He compared voting to leave the EU with Ukrainians fighting for their lives in the war against Russia.

When Julia Hartley Brewer starts to criticise him, you know he has overstepped the mark.

I am sorry, but this man absolutely disgusts me.

And me.

Quite apart from the fact that Ukraine applied to join the EU !

Johnson's crass comments have not gone unnoticed.

For those of you who aren't on Twitter or who don't see these reports on BBC news, I always find the Ros Atkins report extremely informative and clearly explained. This is what news should be like. No bias. No spin. Just facts.

Sky News reporting that three Ukrainian peace negotiators and Roman Abramovich were showing signs of being DELIBERATELY targeted with chemical weapons, having developed symptoms after a meeting.

I am beginning to wonder how much longer the world can stand by and let this happen. It's a tough call, but sooner or later, someone has to stand up to Putin - and I don't just mean the Ukrainians.

To be fair it certainly is a very tough call. But the most worrying thing going forward is how morally bankrupt Putin and his cronies are leaving it so unclear what his limits might be.

I realise some disagree. It is now too much that Russian players are still being allowed to play. It is not their personal fault but the atrocities being committed in their countries name make it impossible for me to see them playing professional tennis. They should , as they should have been weeks ago, suspended from all play on tour until further notice.

I disagree,  and with the Wimbledon proposal that players make some kind of declaration.  The latter placing the players at risk of reprisals for ever.

But Jon's suggested would get round the declaration and reprisals problem (which, I agree, is a serious problem)

If they were banned, they'd be no issue

As per CD, just ban them until further notice. The declaration is unreasonable as a solution for all concerned.

It's not the AELTC proposing it. Its the British sports minister.
