Week 7 - ITF W25 - Glasgow, UK, Hard

Some real nasty forehand errors were behind that break at 4-4 :(

Jasmine stays wonderfully calm and focussed when under pressure.

Ends up winning in three when a lot of the momentum in the second set was with Anna, and also Anna had gone 3-0 up in the second

Well done Jasmine, knew you'd come through. (I had some of my winnings from Hep last week invested)

Disappointing for Anna pressure of the home tournament maybe.

I'm not sure. I think it was quite likely to be a fairly close match, and looked like it could have gone either way late on, with Anna having 4 BPs at 4-4, and then having *40-15 at 4-5 (I didn't see any of the match though...)

Jasmine has been chipping away a bit at main draw wins, and that's her 2nd R1 win during this UK swing, as well as a decent wins in Bham quals last week, but it would be nice if she could make her first QF since 2020, and first at this level, but it will probably be tough if Freya loses tomorrow.

Yes, I reckoned it looked quite likely to he a close one with Jasmine possibly slight favourite. I don't know what the odds were.

Jasmine will rise into the top 1000 for the first time, probably about WR 950 based on her 6 points here so far.

That should give us 29 players in the top 1000 with currently Anna and Jasmine the projected GB #28 and #29 respectively at 28/02.

I saw the top comment above before it was edited. From the stats what stands out is that points totals 115 to J against 124 to A, not a massive deficit in a long 3 set match BUT 5/9 bp for J while 6/24 for A. So Anna broke 1 more time but Jasmine saved a massive 18 break points.  Says something about her competitiveness and mental strength but also with that number likely to be a bit of luck involved along the way. The beauty of the tennis scoring system of course.

I didn't see the comment pre edit, so no idea what was said. I guess looking at those break points then she may feel disappointed, plus she is the more senior player, playing at home, but still, it's not like a wow 'she shouldn't be losing to a Jasmine' type situation.

Indy - Bet365 had it Anna 4/6 vs 11/10 (or 1.67 vs 2.10), so she was deemed a slight pre match favourite, but obviously, anything close to 2 (or evens) is pretty tight from that perspective.

Jodie has a shocking record against Ozgen. A couple of them came very early on her career, and coming up to 36 y/o Pemra is maybe not at her peak, but their H2H is 5-0 and Jodie has only won 1 set, so she probably won't like that draw psychologically.

It's often hard to back up a good week with another, but all being well, Sonay will hopefully be able to get past her seed. Siskova was a similar low seed last week, but lost in R2, and was a betting underdog against both of her non seeded opponents (obviously winning one), so you'd think Sonay would be a fairly clear betting favourite in that, at least on paper.

Obviously who knows what will happen after last week, but I think 2 through in addition to the guaranteed one would be a decent return here.

Speaking of odds, Sonay is more than a 'fairly clear' favourite, she is a HUGE favourite. Bet 365 have her 1/12 vs 6/1. Siskova's average odds are 6.99, so basically 6/1 as well, but 1xBet have her at 8.80, which is almost 8/1. She doesn't seem to be in the best of form, but that's still crazy for someone currently ranked 272.

So who's prepared to bet against Sonay ?

Absolutely !

Bet against what you want to happen - then you've got to be happy, whatever...

(But don't try and cover all bases by betting on both sides - that's not such a good idea biggrin)

PS More likely to bet against Jodie, than Sonay, given everything.
