I like Emma Wilson's attacking approach though the execution is patchy. Lots of big forehands, drive volleys, looks to get to the net. Backhand crosscourt not finding the court. She won the first set 6-4
Yeah, agree. It's a nice forehand-heavy game. Bit of trouble with footwork at time (hence some of the misses, IMO). Second set won't be a given....
2nd set wasn't so good from Emma Wilson. Had 2 bps in the opening game, dumped a 2nd serve return in the net, then rather gifted her opponent a break with 3 wild forehands and a volley into the net, then lost the plot for the next 5 to 10 mins, before a short spell in which it all looked too easy for her, then back to being rubbish.
Emma Wilson won 10-8, having been 6-8 down. A lucky net cord backhand winner, then a super forehand crosscourt winner, another forehand winner and finally an error from her opponent.
I think her serve needs quite a bit of work. It lacks penetration.
Decent effort from Dani, who ended up losing in the MTB.
Can't help feeling with a little push in the right direction she could be a fair bit better player....
Mayela Bassega has not looked completely out of place on court - the girl's got a natural good eye and is athletic - pretty rough and ready technique, though - wonder if she's possibly able to do college tennis in the states? She would really benefit from something like that.
Nice first set from Jasmine too

All 16 Q1 matches have now finished, and another very good day overall I'd say.
6 through to the FQR, and 4 of them in all GB matches, so 2 guaranteed to qualify, and maybe a chance for Hep against Katerina as well.
I thought we had 7 who would be more capable of making the main draw, and 6 of them were paired with other Brits (the other being Marni) - so more chance of getting actual numbers through, but less chance of having an unbelievable qualifying round where 5 or 6 could have, but also with the chance of 0/1. I personally think it's better probably this way.
