TB went pretty much the same way as the set itself and mini breaks and momentum shifts throughout, but Sonay takes it 7-6(5), with Palicova hitting a DF on SP. It's been a very enjoyable first set.
I do think Sonay has been getting a fair bit of the benefit of the doubt regarding calls, and had this have been say Brno W25 then some points may have been different, but I think Barbora was letting it get to her too much, and it may well have cost her in that set. Palicova now receiving an MTO.
Great win from Sonay - a very to-and-fro second set too, where defence against the heavy hits from Palicova were key to keeping her in rallies and eventually forcing the error. In the final game a couple of loose shots from Palicova off tricky junk shots proved very helpful.
Great stuff. 100 points in 2 weeks is insane, especially being a WC both times. Close match throughout, but perhaps because the first set was already in the bag, I did think Sonay was more in control in the second, and a well earned win in the end.
Hopefully she gives herself a good few weeks off, but it'll be interesting to see her schedule going forward.
Caught most of the matches this week at some point. Very fitting the best match was saved until the final. Great match, well done Sonay - tough opponent but her skills won through against the big hitting Czech.

Just to answer this question. We had two British women reach 25K finals in consecutive weeks in 2019. Naiktha reached the final in Solapur and Pune in December 2019 - losing both. In June 2019, Fran reached the final in consecutive weeks in Minsk - winning both weeks.
Thanks Lambda. So not that long ago - I do remember Fran's run now that you mention it. I can also remember Pune with Naiktha playing Emma in the final, but didn't realise / remember it was on the back of a previous final. We see so many times when a player has a big week one week, they crash out in R1 or R2 the following week in a match they'd be expecting to win, or retire / walkover fairly early on the next week.
I may have thought it better if Jodie won but I guess I can put up with yet another Sonay win And it looks to have been a good match.
Sonay has now earned 85 points so far this year. She will go to 105 if she wins the final and #1 Brit for points this year, ahead of Heather 103 and Katie B 96.
And it is thus. Sonay has most points this year.
Of course we would wish that one or two players had managed more so far but yes from Sonay insane indeed.
Though may Emma ( currently 71 points so needs st least 2 wins in Mexico ) fly past het this coming week.
Between Emma, Sonay, Mimi and Hannah the prospects for British Tennis have rarely been so promising.
I would say a few are missing from this list but I agree with your sentiment. British tennis is looking bright for the future.
Having numbers is so key. While it very likely won't happen for some quite as they/we would hope, it gives more of a chance of one or two making really big strides in seniors in the fullness of time.
