Hep has a wildcard, as expected, with her Stirling connection.

Ranah's one for the MD pretty much confirmed, as a slamdunk.

As said elsewhere, Freya too presumably.

Mayela Bassega is from London, I believe, so curious to see her pop up, but good luck to her and Lara.

Some interesting sections there. Hep vs Emily is quite intriguing, and depending on the level of the Hungarian seed, probably no weak links in the section. Hopefully Isabelle and / or Jasmine (if necessary) can trouble the Japanese girl. I'm not familiar with Mayela or Lara, so no idea if there is legit hope for either of those to sneak a win.

Freya obviously did beat Anna in the MTB last week in Birmingham, but if Freya does have the MDWC, then I wouldn't have minded Anna getting the chance instead this week, especially in her backyard.

After last week, I'm not even going to bother speculating how many we might get through biggrin

Candidates for MD wildcards look likely to be:-
Freya Christie, Ranah Akua Stoiber, Mingge Xu and Talia Neilson Gatenby.

Sonay Kartal should get a SE to the main draw after winning Birmingham.

Alice Gillan was in the draw but is now listed as PFLWQD 11th Feb.

Sonay has a SE, so the other four are likely candidates.(Talia could have a SE, if she was bumped into qualifying - lots of withdrawals)
As CD iterated there are a couple of strange QWCs.

Shame for Anna not to get a wild card into the only women's event in Scotland.

Lack of depth in Scottish women's tennis Anna was a good junior became disillusioned only came back on tour November as year they probably think she doesn't deserve a MDWC. Mind you I saw Ali Collins a couple of years she received a WC for main draw but was out of her depth, looked like a model rather than a tennis player

Yes players coming back like Anna has done should be encouraged!

Speaking of Scottish players, Maia was playing doubles today - competitions.lta.org.uk/sport/league/match, but next week is probably too soon in her come back for competitive singles.

Not only does Anna come from Scotland but she comes from Glasgow itself.....

Maybe she p**sed off all the Scottish tennis bods, who'd invested a lot in her, and then she dropped out?

Not commendable if so, but it wouldn't be the first time....

Chloe Elliott at 12th alternate got directly into qualifying. Lara and Mayela were 13th and 15th so were next two Brits in line. In absence of any other deserving cases below them it would seem perfectly reasonable for them to receive wildcards. The only player to miss out was Michelle D who was 14th and plays as Dutch.

Yes, absolutely, but strange there were no deserving cases, I think that's the point

After all, if you're in a country with only two elite academies in the whole country, and one of them is near Glasgow, I'd expect every player (age 14 and over) from that academy to be taking part in your 'local' event. Otherwise what are you preparing them for?

 Better than byes.

I don't think there was any question of byes as there were plenty players on the list but just who would get the last qwcs.

Fair dos I guess if Lara and Mayela were the top two Brits on the alternates list after 3 qwcs had been allocated so had already nearly got in. Though wouldn't these positions be just as a result of a draw amongst these without a WTA or ITF ranking?
