Talia Neilson-Gatenby

Time for a thread for young Talia (born 2005) .....

At age 16, being a wildcard, and in only her second adult ITF event, she has made it all the way to final in the 25k at Birmingham this week, before losing in three sets.

An amazing week for her.

Talia has had some nasty injuries in recent years. Fractured wrist. Major ankle sprain. Etc. etc.

According to Tennisdad, she used to be in Stirling academy but has now moved to Loughborough, and - although rather slight for her age - is a player, he says, who really stands out from the crowd.

Her junior record is reasonable but maybe hampered a bit by the injuries. She made the final at Loughborough J3 which was her best result. Took the title at the J5 in Liverpool, and has two J4 runners-up places last year too.

And she's got a decent draw to get through to the second round at Loughborough.

Let's hope we see her break that significant top 500 barrier soon. Lovely to see our youngsters doing well.

Unfortunately not to be - she had real problems with the body serves and couldn't quite capitalise when she was ahead in certain points

But still early days smile

Talia had an injury strewn spring, with a heel injury preventing her from playing the National championships.

She'd just got going again, and was playing really well - she posted an excellent three-set win over Alice Robbe, WTA 216, at the Ilkley 100k.

But, really unforuntatley, she hurt her hip in the next match and it needs a couple of months rest and rehab, and she's now out of Wimbledon Juniors too, of course, which is very sad for her as it's her last year in juniors.

Wishing her all the very best.....

How disappointing for her. Sounds like an annoying injury too. Especially missing the summer with all the opportunities for promising British players. Hope the rehab goes well for her.
