Fantastic win, and yes, the point increase is awful considering the level of players in the Q draw. The way it worked out, 13 for the win yesterday, but a measly extra 5 today is a crazy contrast.
They badly needed a simultaneous European indoor W250 this week so that either only 2 rounds of Qs would be sufficient, or the level of player involved would be considerably lower. 5 extra points for a win over the W34.
Great win that. Ridiculous that its worth 18 points but a W25 tournament win is 50. Not to say W25 didnt need to be higher due to a lack of mid level tournaments but surely this needs bumping up.
I kind of see your point ( and13/18/25 is a strange points progression ) but in general it's difficult to legislate for the different levels of opponent you might or might not face in tournaments ( and as AV indicated any tournament's strength can be affected by what other tournaments are on that week ). Even leaving aside Harriet's ridiculous QR1 for 13 points she could easily have had a much less severe rankings test in QR2. And at the end if the day it is just qualifying for the main event where the rewards ranking and monetary-wise are high.
I guess you could have some ranking points related to the ranking level of the player you beat as some have discussed. Not for me but I do see the argument.
I'm just thrilled for the win and may it give her the confidence for more wins and ranking points as the year progresses.
I like Harriet a lot and believe her upside is far higher than 120, but I don't think I'd have backed her to win both service points at *4-5 in a third set breaker against a bit hitting top 40 player. So pleased for her.
