There's actually quite a lot of players, particularly from Northern Africa that could have been selected and have been in the past. And there's a few juniors from the region these days (the young girl who won a match at Australian Open for example). Even Al Nabhani who hasn't played this year and is a long way from the level she was at her best would have been a better choice.
Yers but their family may not have been able to pay up.
Q2: DART, Harriett (GBR) 130 (CH=120 2021) v SAMSONOVA, L udmila (RUS) (3) 34 =CH
Q2: WATSON, Heather (GBR) 87 (CH=38 2015) v TOMLJANOVIC, Ajla (AUS) (6) 39=CH
They have played twice before with Heather winning 3&2 at Wimbledon in 2014 and Ajla winning 4 & 6(5) earlier this year in Adelaide.
Eden seems to have ditched Cancun to travel half way round the world to play doubles on a wildcard with Zimmerman. She's gotten quite a few wildcards here over the years.
Although as she's scheduled to travel back to Mexico to play the 250 there next week (also with Zimmerman), that's quite a lot of airmiles!

Harriet is still in this match 3-3 in the second set
Yeah, she's doing her stuff, playing her game. It's obviously a little short on power, as compared with Samsonova, but all she can do is make it difficult to be beaten.
