Individually yes, but none of the others are huge outsiders like we saw yesterday, so there is certainly a good opportunity to get one or two more through, so I actually think, in terms of a numbers game, it would be slightly disappointing if it was just the two, especially as one of them is guaranteed.
In terms of odds:
Sam 2/7 vs 5/2
Jasmine 11/4 vs 1/4
Eliz 6/5 vs 8/13
Freya 4/7 vs Anna 5/4
Lauryn 1.95 vs 1.65 (no odds on Bet365)
Hep 5/6 vs 5/6
I think the oddsmakers are perhaps over-emphasising Hep after yesterday, and it often is really hard to back up one fantastic eye-catching win with another the next day, but hopefully one of the three Brits with very close odds can make it through.
No great betting opportinuties today then ! Jasmine lost to Malygina 3 & 5 at Loughborough, so that could be closer than the odds suggest - or not !
It does rather look as though the seeded players will come through today though.
I was just going to say (before seeing the scores, honest) that Eliz vs Joanna could be interesting, as while obviously just UKPL and pinch of salt etc. Eliz did beat her 1 and 3 less than three weeks. Joanna has improved since then, and had a respectable showing at Loughborough despite exiting fairly early, but that would surely give Eliz confidence.
To be honest, given the opponent, if one of Eliz, Hep, or Lauryn were going to beat seeded opponents and qualify, I would prefer the other two, but it would be really good for Eliz if she could get a notable win, and enter the main draw.
She is up *4-3, and won the last three games, but has work to do on her serve.
Eliz has taken the first set 6-3, and it totally passed me by that Hep was involved in one of the other two matches currently in play, but while plenty of deuce games, she is struggling at the moment.
Yeah, good effort from Hep, particularly the second set where she was 4-3 up, so not just a case of playing catch up throughout the set. I don't think she gets anything really tangible WTA-wise for it (not that it matters at her age), but a fantastic win yesterday, so a very positive tournament.
Eliz heading into a MTB, 6-3 5-7 (she lost 5 games in a row from 3-0, but got back into it).
