RE: Week 6 - ITF W25 - Birmingham, UK Hard

That's what SE's are for wink

Na, but seriously, defo a MDWC - hopefully continue to build her ranking and then perhaps she'll get into more W25s down the line without needing one. There's definitely a player there, and you can't win the amount of matches she has, at all levels, these past 2 years by accident, so yeah, I'd put more eggs into her basket.

Sonay casually reeling off 9 games in a row to lead 6-2 *4-0. I don't know too much about Lys (potential next opponent), I can remember her winning a W25 a year or two ago, but assuming she comes through this, then Sonay will surely be in fair contention to take the title.

Good memory ! Eva Lys aged 20, WR343.

W25 Altenkirchen in 2020 and W25 Istanbul in 2021

What is the thinking behind Sam only entering this w25 tournament on British soil and then through qualifying

when she should be in the Main Draw ?

It was the home one in 2020 that I was thinking of, because it was quite a surprise at the time, but I did have a quick look at recent results, and she has done well recently, so it will be a good test for Sonay and interesting match.

Wow - Sonay wins 6-2 6-0. That's definitely making a statement

Absolutely. I had a pound on her but didn't think the score would be anything like that emphatic.

And Jodie has managed to wrap her match up in two sets two smile

And Jodie does make it through in two (longish) sets

So four through to the quarters.

I think 2/4 will be reasonable here, and then an all Brit final Jodie v Sonay

So again looking at next week.
Sonay, Anna Brogan (local athlete), Eliz could all justify a MDWC from qualifying.
Then you have the following not even on qualifying that could warrant a QWC or MDWC
Marni Banks
Lauryn John-Baptiste
Emma Wilson
Ranah Stoiber (top junior)
Isabelle Lacy
Hep Oluwadare
Talia Gatenby
Mimi Xu
Sam Murray (did not enter)

Ella McDonald( did not enter, but Stirling based)

Somebody will miss out....

Good to see you much more positive than before R1

I'll go with that final.

Overall I'm sure the girls have so far well exceeded all our expectations.

Sonay obviously has a wildcard into the MD here or Glasgow from the week 1 UK Pro feed-up (as the winner couldn't use it, being non-GB)

If her one this week was not the feed-up one, then she still has that to use in Glasgow.

No way of knowing how to check though.....

I would expect a slight Scottish slant for the wildcards (either 'native' Scottish, or those at the Stirling academy)

You are only allowed 3mdwc and 3 qwc into itfs so they need to be used wisely

You get an extra wildcard if you win a MD with a wildcard. See wildcard thread.

Sonay has used 2/4

Personally, I suspect the following for MDWC:
Anna Brogan
Ranah Stoiber
Mimi Xu
Ella McDonald

QWC
Emma Wilson
Marni Banks (might get in direct)
Lauryn John-Baptiste
Talia Gatenby
Isabelle Lacy (1st reserve if Marni gets in direct)
