Was yesterday perhaps the best day for British Women's tennis at this level for quite some time?
Among some terrific results surely the stand out has to be Isabelle Lacy's win. Wasn't this the very first time she had played a match of any sort at the ITf senior level? She beat a decent ranked player too.
I think that day at Sunderland just under 2 years ago will take some beating, 6 Brits, 6 wins, no sets dropped. Less surprises than yesterday, but still a couple of underdogs prevailing.
Good stuff with Lauryn and the TB, pegged back from *5-2 to 5-5*, but won the next 2 points. Still a great tournament for Isabelle.
Regarding Sonay, I think odds are often a decent indicator of perception. Sam clearly hasn't been firing on all cylinders the past couple of years, and Beth is very new to that 300 level, but (while she didn't win), Sonay was the 1.58 (just over 1/2) favourite to beat Beth, and is now the 1.46 fave to beat Sam (just under 1/2), so I think there is a perception that she is operating at around the 250-300 level, and yesterdays fab top 150 win did nothing to harm her stock. She should definitely be a major QWC candidate, and if she can get her ranking up to a more realistic level in the coming months, maybe even more.
Great win for Lauryn - shout put her straight inside the top 1000
Talia is doing rather well 5-5 in the second. If she can sneak a win, she would have a WTA ranking.
Yeah, Talia with a second chance to serve it out, now at *6-5, but there have been a number of breaks throughout, so I certainly wouldn't rule out a TB, but another really good effort regardless.
Jodie took her opening set 7-5, but is 0-2 down in the second.
Sonay was an early break down to Sam, but now 3-2* (and BP).
