Week 6 - WTA500 - St Petersberg, Russia Hard

Seeds in Harriet's section are Anna Bogdan(7)
Harriet played Anna twice in 2019 losing easily in the US open and winning in 3 in Tashkent.

Varvara Gracheva(3)

Oh dear, HD lost the first set 6-1 against the 29-year-old WR 278. Not what we were hoping for.

4-4 in the second, Harriet receiving....

Edit - and having served for the second set at 5*-4, Hazza eventually loses 6-1 7-5. Hardly encouraging....oh well on to the next event I suppose.

QR1 - Ulrikke Eikeri (WR 278) defeated Harriet Dart (WR 132) 6-1 7-5.

Shocking performance against the doubles specialist.

I feel Harriet needs a warm up tournament to really compete. Not sure why she didn't play something last week.

No disguising this as anything but a disappointing result for Harriet. She had a good section from which to qualify too.

She's going to be 26 this year so really needs to kick on into the top 100 if she's really going to establish herself in it as the next few years ought to see her at her best really. I do wonder whether the 120 position is going to be about her high point.

Tbf, there wasn't much to play in - maybe the 60k French tournament, I guess. But she should be better than the 25k and 15k tournaments.

Harriet is usually a battler but too often just when she looks on the verge of a breakthrough she has a stinker. What is her best result in a regular tour event?

Wimbledon R3 is her best tournament, but in terms of regular tour, I think coming through Montreal quals last year and beating Fernandez in R1 is her best points haul. I don't believe she has made a WTA QF yet.

Poor result there. Eikeri hasn't played a non grass event in the UK since 2019, but she seems more like someone who is always here, and should have been playing Birmingham W25 next week. A setback after a positive start to the year, but I can see where HarryGem is coming from with that post.
