Week 5 - ITF W25 - Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt Hard

Worry not, Katie only played once. She's scheduled to play Tessah in R2 on Thursday.

The discussions about Tessah's scores are regarding her R1 match to just confirm that she will be Katie's R2 opponent.

 That's a relief thanks.

Katie needs 8 game points to hold for 5-4*. Saved a match point on the way.

But Tessah got broken, serving for the match

The Jodie effect might still be alive and well.....

5-7 7-5, and into a decider. Let's hope Tessah has some of Jodie's third set traits...

Just noticed Yafan Wang is competing here and would be a potential QF opponent for Katie IF they both came through their respective R2 matches. Crazy to think that less than 3 years ago she was beating Kenin in a WTA final, but now, through a combination of loss of form and Covid (logistical) complications, finds herself in the mid 300s with only 9 wins since 2019. She's 28 in a couple of months, so that 25-28/29 period should have really be her prime years.

Quite a few recognisable names involved this week who have fallen on hard times in recent years. It also takes some getting used to seeing Sharm as a W25 event after so many years as a typical W15.

A couple of back to back breaks just before, but Katie finally holds for 5-4* having saw a 40-0 lead turn into needing to save a BP.

3 hrs 24 minutes thus far - it will be a tough one for whoever doesn't come through.

Live scores was stuck on 5-6 30-30* for a long time, but sadly not to be 5-7 7-5 5-7.

Argh. I mean she could have won that quite comfortably, too many doubles and a lot of service games she was well up in that she made a meal of.

Disappointing, but another week to come here and another opportunity to improve.

Em and Sofia had points to win the first 6 games but can only win 1 of 4 deuce points.

Instead it's *3-4
