Boys & Girls: Les Petits As U14 super category, France, indoor hard (Week 4)

This year there is just one Brit in the leading under 14 event by direct acceptance, but Georgiana Mititelu is joined by wildcard Hannah Klugman (welcomed by the organisers here )  while Mark Ceban and Liam Channon  have come through qualifying.

Hannah is fifth on the streamed court 2 tomorrow.  Streams available here and scores from all courts (Georgiana is second on court 7) here

Boys R1 (L64)

Lenny Couturier (FRA) v (Q) Mark Ceban

(Q) Liam Channon v Keaton Hance (USA)

Girls R1 (L64)

Georgiana Mititelu v (16) Sydney Jara (USA)

Julieta Pareja (USA) v (WC) Hannah Klugman

Georgiana lost 1&0

I think Hannah is the only other Brit due to play singles today, the boys are just due to play their doubles match.

I'm hoping Hannah enters one of the ITF junior events at Liverpool as I'd like to see what all the fuss is about in person. Entries out tomorrow

Last big name to make ITF debut at Liverpool was Emma Raducanu who won it.

My goodness, Hannah has shot up

It's hardly the first time but it always makes me smile when you see a teenager who's just grown a whole head in height.

Sometimes it can make them very klutzy - all legs, and arms, and no idea quite where their bodies are.

We also used to measure their feet - you always look at height but foot size is important for an elite youngster too - they grow in spurts too - and sometimes coaches have been known to be be shouting at kids to do their micro-steps etc, and get in the right position, and you point out to them that the kid's feet have grown two whole sizes in a couple of months and it's not surprising they they're tripping over all the time.

However, Hannah seems OK at the moment, although possibly a little less gainly than before, growing into herself....

Hannah showed no mercy with last year's US U12 champion (born same year as Hannah, I think)

6-2 6-0

Hannah's 2009 rival Ksenia Efremova also cruised through. This time the earliest they could meet is the final. Both boys play tomorrow on streamed courts (Mark 4th on 1 and Liam 4th on 2)

Yes, I noted dear ol' Ksenia's result - bet mum's happy

But early days....

I will definitely try and watch some of Mark Ceban's match today - he made the QFs of the U12 Orange Bowl, before losing to the eventual winner a month ago. Have been wanting to see him play a bit.

However, he's Y1 here, I think, (like Hannah, who played up in the Orange Bowl). Don't know much about his French opponent but will try and look him up.....

Yes Ceban is another 2009 born, though 6ft plus already. Should be a good match

Goodness, he is SO tall for a 12-13 year-old - I never knew it was possible to BE that tall at that age smile

He's just won a tight first set (8-6 in the TB) against a far more 'normal' player

It's very difficult, I find, to evaluate players like Mark.

It's obvious they have a great advantage on their serve, and reach.

And that they are - by contrast - less dynamic and bouncy.

It all depends really whether he carries on, or stops growing and all the other kids catch up.

But it's nice to see a tall lad - I've sometimes commented that we seem to have a pretty short batch of lads (Arthur, Felix, even Jack, Aidan, Ryan S, Liam, and even Jay is only barely 6 ft, and Paul and Ryan P about the same?)

Literally head and shoulders above most of the 2009 players does look very solid from the back of the court. As you say will be interesting to see how he develops. Part of the Bromley RPDC and coached my Matt Smith (our last GB winner here).

Matt is our only winner here (a few finalists, such as Liam Broady, Laura Robson and Andy Murray), and I notice that he has been promoting the video of his final 9against Mario Ancic, who went on to be a top tenner, on YouTube

I noticed that Hannah won her doubles today, playing with Scarlette Hetherington, the 'French' girl with English parents.
