Week 4 - ITF W60 - Andrezieux-Boutheon, France Hard

Q1: NICHOLLS, Olivia (GBR) UNR (CH=943 2017) v VILLET, Marie (FRA) 15 1041 =CH

Sam was on the list but withdrew today with another PFLWQD.

I knew Liv and Lissey were going to be there, but Liv was way down the acceptance list at 18th alternate, and Lissey actually withdrew on 11th January. Must have been a lot of no-shows, although the main draw is still going to be pretty strong

There have been four PFLWQD and four PFLWMDs in the last two days. There were also several other late withdrawals a day or two earlier.

There was a change to the withdrawal process starting last week when these PFs started appearing. Before last week to withdraw after the freeze deadline players had to email or fax a withdrawal form, since last week they now have to do it online through their IPIN account. I'm pretty sure this is not a coincidence and these new initialisms just mean that they have withdrawn after the freeze deadline. Its also why the acceptance lists can now update after the freeze deadline with who has withdrawn.

Am I right in thinking that the post freeze withdrawal fine doesn't apply if you are pulling out because you are still competing in another event and not Special Exempt eligible?

I think you are right - but the rule appears to only cover withdrawals from qualifying. Not certain what happens to those from the main draw - I assume they would get fined affter their third offence.

I posted this earlier in the Loughborough thread in case it helps - seems to apply to all ITF events.

I think PF does mean Penalty Free as according to the ITF regs 2022, players are allowed 3 penalty free withdrawals during the year. This rule may have been in place before but perhaps is now just being made more transparent.

Covered in the attached around pages 81 onwards.

If it meant penalty free for the first 3 withdrawals then, as it is the beginning of the year, that would apply to all players that withdrew from the main draw or qualifying after the withdrawal deadline so isn't referring to that.

I am sure that whatever the rules are will be covered in this document somewhere.

Lambda, you are correct on all points - I checked with a player.

Salma is 19 and perfectly fairly ranked.

In two, Katie - allez, no messin.....
