That opens the draw up a fair bit, either a GB qualifier or an overseas LL will be in the QF, and the other seed in the section is out as well, so there'll be an unseeded SFist.
Sonay (vs Freya) and Beth both take 6-1 first sets. A couple of breaks in the Eliz-Emily match, but on serve at 4-4 first set.
Sonay now a set and a double break up against Freya. Beth is a set up but a break down and Marni is a set down but a break up.
Emily takes the first set 7-5 against Eliz, and Eden also a set up 7-5
I'm pleased to see Sonay's good form continuing into 2022. I thought she would have too much for Freya but I had hoped Freya might make it a closer contest.
Good wins from Beth and Eden. Marni fought so hard, if she'd managed to hold at *0-2 after saving 7 break points maybe she could have swung it but that game just sunk her belief.
Mimi pretty comfortable so far 6-3 *1-0
Looks like they have swapped what cameras are on, Lauryn being streamed. Or not. Its gone off after a couple of points.

I think that's a decent day. Obviously 3 were guaranteed (although I'm pleased with 2 of them, which makes it seem better from my POV), and you'd have hoped Beth would also come through, but maybe anything after that was a bonus, so good to get Eden through as well, especially against a seeded youngster. Talia looked like she might have had a little opening with the change of opponent, but was obviously well beaten. If Lauryn can turn her match around then it would be a very good day.
I normally don't mind GB vs GB a bit later on in a tournament, but a bit of a shame it's Beth vs Sonay. One is our only seed, and the other was possibly the other one that was most likely to go deep, so a shame to lose one of them at the L16 stage, although I guess we do have a guaranteed QFist. It'll be interesting to see how that one goes, and also how the bookies price it - it was an ave 1.64 (Sonay) vs 2.04 when they met in November at the UKPL, and Sonay did win that one, but then Beth did win her W25 title after that (and Sonay a W15).

So good to see our women getting a chance at this level of tournament even if the level sometimes isn't that high the experience is great for some of their development.
