Whatever we may say about lta sometimes getting this run of 25k events is working out well. It's giving lots of gb players the chance to play, even if just qualifying, some get through and get points, some more playing in doubles. Also able to reward those who have improved their ranking, done well in proleague or won a round in Bath as wc. Also I think it is good to see how some of the gb players do against each other, especially if different ages and pathways through tennis. Interesting to see how Emma, who has come out the other side of college tennis, does against Mimi, much younger and lta academy. I think Emma will have too much for her, a lot more experienced and quite a big utr gap.
Also for the lta loughboro academy players, and all the gb to some extent, definitely an advantage having tournament in loughborough. As for it being 25k loads of gb still seem to get in and any who do get through will get more points I imagine.

I guess the doubles will have had something to do with it, but they've only scheduled Jasmine tomorrow, and the other 11 play their singles on Wednesday, which is a bit of a shame. Jasmine first up at 11am (the same time as Joanna G).

There are something like 16 UK events this year and players can only use so many, wildcards, so the LTA will spread them out.

It may be that if Eliz or Sonay or one of the others have a couple of decent events they may get in direct.

The qualifying have been weak. Who would want to travel for qualifying (unless you are confident in getting through and winning matches) and then have a week off before another event. It' s not cost effective unless you are well funded or local.

Didn't realise you get a point for qualifying, but nothing for a 1st round loss.

For the Brits:
Sonay to beat Freya
Beth should win
Marni is a 50/50
Eden will struggle
Eliz v Emily is 50/50. Emily would win if it was a 15k....
Lauryn has a chance especially if the Finnish girl was as poor as at Bath
Jasmine has an outside chance
Mimi must be favourite against Emma
Talia big outsider

Four or five to get through.

Re the all GB matches I would certainly also take Sonay and Mimi to win, with probably Eliz to get the better of Emily App.

Trying to watch Gael, and Jasmine, AND finish a report, is not easy.....

(Deadlines are overrated, I reckon)

But Jasmine played quite nicely in the first set, from what I could see, but the score of 6-3 seemed fair - her opponent hit some nice winners and there were a few too many loose shots from the GB girl.

But Jasmine has just broken, and is now *4-3 up in the second

I think she'll be a little disappointed not to have taken that to 3. Did well to recover from a break down in the second but should have closed out at *4-3 and had 30-0* at 5-5. Good effort though, there's the foundations of a good professional player there, and hope that taping on the back/shoulder is nothing serious.

Yes, certainly a second-set tie-break was deserved. Shame.

But, hey, as you say, it was a decent effort.

I knew Jasmine got it back from 1-3 to 3-3, but didn't realise she then went a break up. She sadly lost 3-6 5-7 in the end, but all good experience.

Good win for Joanna after a couple of below par weeks, defeating the Bath winner in straight sets. I was surprised Hennemann entered the Spanish W25 last week (especially as I initially thought it was on clay) after winning the Bath title, as a week off, stay in the UK, and play another indoor event would sound more appealing, although I guess if she did well fairly last week (lost in R1) then she could have withdrawn from Loughborough instead.

Arina V, the UKPL winner from last week, is also through.

Jasmine lost 3-6 5-7 in just over 2 hours

Apart from Jasmine's match the other 7 women's R1 matches scheduled for today are the 7 without Brits. So tomorrow will be bumper Brit day

It's very odd - when I saw this, I wondered if the schedulers were being kind to the visitors by giving them a day off between rounds 1 and 2 but maybe it's got more to do with the doubles.
