Weeks 3-4 - Australian Open, Women's Main Draw - Melbourne, Australia - Outdoor, Hard

It wasn't totally clear but I got the impression that when Hev moved up to use Bolton with her boyfriend moving football teams, that JTC wouldn't let Alex go with her, and made him choose (or maybe his contract with JTC meant he didn't have a choice). She pretty much said that it wasn't a decision to split it was more circumstances meant they couldn't stay together.

Anyway, probably quite nice to be travelling with a mate for these few weeks. Keep the mindset relaxed.

Yes that's right. She said her father has a flat in Blackpool and she and Courtney had been staying there since his move to Morecambe. Whilst there she's been training in Bolton.

Just seen the highlights of Emma (and Andy). Emma looked like she was being aggressive and hitting through again, which she seemed to have stopped doing, in this match, clearly that is he she needs to play. Get on a run and it is hard to beat but at the same time she will no doubt have poor losses as well.

11 straight slam wins now incl qualies, 11-1 main draw win loss record.

Where did you watch the highlights please?  Alas, I don't have Eurosport or Discovery. Thanks.

The whole of the first set (all 17 mins) is on YouTube:

There is also an 8 mins highlights:

So Emma and Heather remain on course for a L16 match-up. Although one or two half decent players could intervene

Their eighth of the draw now reads :
(14) S Halep vs B Haddad-Maia
D Kovinic vs (17) E Raducanu
(29) T Zidansek vs H Watson
A Cornet vs (3) G Muguruza

At the end of Heathers presser I presumed she was talking about JoKo retiring and being still young and having lots too offer? I didnt hear Jo's name mentioned but couldnt think who else she meant?

She also said that Alex Ward had decided to go the Academy route and it sounded to me like the Academy had put pressure on him to commit to them or Heather? Did I misunderstand that? SOmetimes the questions werent audible to me...

She said Joanna Konta, but the auto translator wrote anaconda which made me giggle a little :)

Heather gets 130 points for that first round doubles win - more than available for winning any ITF event except the W100's.

I'm pleasantly surprised at how our ladies are performing. Happy to see Heather happy too.

I think that I had lowered my hopes and expectations after Emma getting thrashed, to a bit more like the Brits that I've hoped for in the past that have come and gone - more gone with most apart from Jo. I would love to see Emma and Hev meet, but I'm not holding my breath. Glad that we've got so many brits to follow of late.

Looking at Live Rankings site, would Heather have dropped below Tara in doubles ranks if she hadn't won today? It looks like she is c 80 points ahead in live standings, so those 130 she gained today limit her losses to a net 110 from current ranking (did she have a lot of points from last year/year before to defend in doubles?)
