Weeks 3-4 - Australian Open, Women's Main Draw - Melbourne, Australia - Outdoor, Hard

Well done to Emma.

Before the match I was quite prepared for it being a defeat today.

With her prep or rather lack of it, I would have been amazed if it had turned out to be a really good consistent performance ( and it clearly was far from that by either Sloane or her ).

Those three sets should do her a lot of good. Onwards for now.

Such an interesting and revealing post-match presser from Heather. I'm so happy she's finally loving tennis again. She sounds like she's in a new headspace and ready to take on the year.

Fab interview, Heather comes across so well, and very mature - and a really nice person

Just watched Harriet's highlights on Youtube - she looked to be hitting the ball well, quite a lot of winners, and reasonably competitive in the baseline exchanges. Had quite a few game points which she couldn't take - but Iga hitting the ball beautifully.

At the end of Heathers presser I presumed she was talking about JoKo retiring and being still young and having lots too offer? I didnt hear Jo's name mentioned but couldnt think who else she meant?

She also said that Alex Ward had decided to go the Academy route and it sounded to me like the Academy had put pressure on him to commit to them or Heather? Did I misunderstand that? SOmetimes the questions werent audible to me...

I've said this before about Heather but she is one of those people who you just can't help smile back at.
So happy to have woken up to an Emma win - especially with such a WTA scoreline!

It was the journalist who mentioned Jo. Great interview, and good to hear Heather being so happy and positive. Not certain about the academy thing, JCT may have put some pressure on.

ETA

The journalist asked about thoughts on progressing to the second week, and got the stock answer he deserved. He couldn't have looked at the draw before asking.

Just seen the highlights of Emma (and Andy). Emma looked like she was being aggressive and hitting through again, which she seemed to have stopped doing, in this match, clearly that is he she needs to play. Get on a run and it is hard to beat but at the same time she will no doubt have poor losses as well.

11 straight slam wins now incl qualies, 11-1 main draw win loss record.

Where did you watch the highlights please?  Alas, I don't have Eurosport or Discovery. Thanks.

She said it was the academy's choice, meaning JTC, that Alex no longer worked with her.

Definite glimpses of the New York Radders today. I'm sure it'll only be a matter of time before she's back to regular winning ways.
