Shame about Harriet, but no great surprise.
But yay to Heather, which considering how inconsistent her game can be, was a bit of a surprise.

Brilliant (and a long way from a given) from Hev
No surprise re Harriet
Thrilled for Sam Stosur, in front of the home crowd, in her last event
Noted that Hailey Baptiste (who Sam Murray came SO close to beating in QR1) put out Garcia today in R1 of the main draw.

Heather played Zidansek in Adelaide recently with Zidansek winning in 3 sets.

Wow Coco lost to a Wang. Think it's the Wang that Harriet beat a couple of weeks ago.

It's a different Wang. Harriet beat Xin Yu Wang a couple of weeks ago. The Wang who beat Coco is Qiang Wang. Qiang is the  player who beat Ash Barty at the 2019 US Open and Serena Williams at the 2020 Australian  Open. Also she beat Jo Konta  6-4 6-0 at Miami 2019 winning 10 games in a row.  Qiang was in the top20 in 2020. To add to the confusion there are three Wang's in the main .draw.

Xinyu Wang  who  Harriet beat a couple of weeks ago is through to the 2nd round to play Sabalenka. Xiyu Wang  is also through to the 2nd round  to play Krejcikova so all 3 Wangs' are through to the 2nd round. ,

Another former champion   to go out in the first round was Angie Kerber on her 34th birthday. She was beaten by Kaia Kanepi .
