I was really enjoying the match, but stupidly ruined it at 3-3 in the decider when I accidentally found out the score, which removed all the suspense and intrigue, and Eurosport 2 cut off at 5-5 to go to some skiing (I was watching a Sky+ recording on delay), so I haven't watched the conclusion yet, but will definitely watch it on Discovery+ at some point - I was hoping to see Barty vs Osaka, but you certainly can't begrudge Anisimova after the past couple of years she has had.
My sleep has been all over the place this week, I'm literally getting a couple of hours shut eye here and there, and not even sure if I'm actually sleeping - I was up until after 5am watching the Badosa vs Kostyuk match, and that went from a seemingly routine 6-2 6-3/4 type match to one where I'm not quite sure how Paula eventually got over the line, but she's still there fighting.
Really sorry to hear you're not sleeping well - you sound like your inner programme has gone completely AWOL - I'm sure you've thought of all the obvious things to get a routine going again so I'm not going to insult your intelligence and suggest warm milk (disgusting stuff! ) but best wishes, hang in there, and hope it's not leaving you too washed and wrung out.

Oh, I'm off work this week, so it's completely self-inflicted .
I just never know how to plan it most efficiently. I guess going to bed around 10pm and getting up at 5am and just watch from there, so the usual 6/7 hours sleep and up not ridiculously early, would be the most 'normal', but then a lot of the WTA matches seem to be at 11am local, 12am here, so I do like being up for those.
I'm normally up fairly late most nights anyway, so a 12am start is fine, but then I set my alarm for like 8am to see the evening session, and when you know you're only going to be in bed 4 or 5 hours, it's often harder to sleep and you're also conscious that don't want to miss your alarm, ha. I tend to be in bed around 10pm, and just listen to a podcast, and then similar from around 3-8am, so I'm probably actually in bed around 7 hours, but very little of that will actually be sleeping.
Oh well, not too much longer. I'm back at work on Tuesday (still from home), so will have to adjust it, although the singles matches are obviously a lot more few and far between at the QF stage.
A number of the form players like Azarenka, Badosa depart overnight.
Badosa was beaten by a player who has returned to her best form in 2022 in Madison Keys. As with Badosa Keys had won a tournament just before the AO .
Keys looks very good at the moment but Barty appears at a different level right now to all the rest. Her slices and the her total game management completely did for Anisimova who was made to look very awkward at times.
Emma Seems to have a decent slice I wonder if that is a part of her game she could develop over her time given how effective a weapon it is for Barty.
I was gutted for Badosa, just never in the match at all, and completely passed her by. She had largely been struggling for most of the week (despite good looking early score lines), quite fortunate that Tomljanovic was also hampered in R1, got a very favourable draw for R2 of a slam, and basically somehow survived Kostyuk in R3, but while I was hoping for one more big result to match her seeding, I never did really see her as a massive contender this week after seeing her vs Ajla in the first match. I think there are question marks over her stamina and probably just a consequence of her taxing game away from her favoured clay. Still, a W500 title, another slam second week, a possible new career high of #5 (depending on whether Swiatek makes the SF) and becoming the new Spanish #1 next week (something Muguruza has held since 2015) is a very positive start to the year, and plenty to build on.
Amazing turnaround for Keys who for a variety of reasons has done very little since 2019, and ended 2021 with 7 defeats from her last 8 matches since losing at Wimbledon (including 6 in a row). Her 2021 record was a poor 11-15, but she already has 10 wins this season, and we are not even out of January yet.
I massively respect Barty's results and consistency and often find myself wanting her to win, primarily just to halt point hauls of less favoured players, but I don't particularly enjoy watching her matches and haven't actually seen any of her 8 so far this season. I would like to see her make the final from the top half, maybe against Halep, and after a couple of near misses, certainly wouldn't begrudge her winning her home slam this time.
Interesting. I don't hear of many people going out of their way to watch Ash Barty. Consistently good and effective amid so much inconsistency and a deserved but understated WR 1.
63 straight slams and shes made her first QF, and plays Danielle Collins next in a winnable QF. Career event and shes had a few!
In the process Cornet has beaten 2 former French/Wimbledon champions. Collins reached the semi finals of the 2019 Australian Open which was the first time she had ever won any matches at a Grand Slam. If Cornet beats Collins it would continue the trend of recent Australian Opens of a non seeded womens semi finalist.(includes JoKo in 2016). If Madison Keys reaches the semi final she too would be unseeded.
