Cool - maybe both are worthy of nomination for the wild card vote!

Been having a think about this as tennis is slowing down right now and that is evident from the activity on the board. There is no point in dragging out the player of the season process for the sake of it so I have realigned the timescales to those below

layer of Season Wild card nominations process - 30th Nov (2 days) (there will be TWO wild cards! members of the board will be able to nominate wild cards candidates for a vote up to a maximum of 20 total candidates, with a limit of 2 nominations per member) - I WILL NOW CLOSE NOMINATIONS AT END OF THE DAY FRIDAY 2ND DECEMBER

Player of Season Wild card vote 2nd Dec - (2 days) - up to 20 nominees in one vote. Vote will close on 4th Dec

Player of Season Round 1 5th Dec - (2 days) - 28 players in 4 groups of 7. Vote will close on 8th Dec

Player of Season Semis 8th Dec - (2 days) - 12 players in 2 groups of 6. Vote will close on 11th Dec.

Player of Season FINAL 11th Dec - (2 days, will close 14th December latest) - 4 players in a single final. So pulling it all to a close a few days earlier for 13th Dec (which is a Tuesday)

This will create a rhythm  and make sure we dont lose interest whilst also giving 2 days per vote.

cos I had some time last night, I counted up all the votes players have received this season in PoM votes and here are the top 10 total votes:

=9. Harriet Dart = 16 votes in total over the year (in 4 PoM appearances)

=9. Neal Skupski = 16 votes in total (in 7 PoM appearances)

=7. Ryan Peniston = 18 votes in total (in 2 PoM appearances)

=7. Joe Salisbury = 18 votes in total (in 5 PoM appearances)

=5. Cam Norrie = 23 votes in total (in 5 PoM appearances)

=5. Jack Draper = 23 votes in total (in 5 PoM appearances)

4. Katie Swan = 24 votes in total (in 4 PoM appearances)

3. Julian Cash/Henry Patten 26 votes in total (in 4 PoM appearances) However, 3 of those where for Julian on his own early in the season, so this might be 23 depending on how you view it!!)

2. Alicia Barnett/ Liv Nicholls = 27 votes (in 3 PoM appearances)

1. SONAY KARTAL = 32 votes (in 3 PoM appearances).

So, Sonay won 2 PoM votes this season, gathered 32 votes and topped that table (plus most PoM titles, only player with 2). Kudos to Sonay

Player of the season groups are drawn and just waiting the end of the wild card vote and their placement in the groups! All groups have 3 or 4 of men and women each. Singles and doubles specialists are placed apart where possible. PoM winners have been seeded apart (Sonay is effectively top seed) and then PoM runners up, British number ones and others not already placed. 4 groups of 7 and it should be fun !

For the semis I will not try and arrange men and women apart / I will place them based on how they finish in the groups; group winners separated so 2 in each semis group, same for group runners up etc. so we
May get more men or women in one group but by that stage we are interested
In the winners and not any sense of initial levelling up or fairness !

Should be good !

To try and maintain interest etc in the groups, I am going to go for staggered starts and finishes. ie Grp A at 10am, B at 2 pm, C at 6 pm and D at 10pm. All will have 48 hours to vote.

Should maintain interest and also allow for different voters having different commitments.

When I post the groups and polls tomorrow Im going to do a small bio for each player/pair. Im just going to show their record though ie ranking change, tournie wins, win loss record - but Im not doing any colour. So when I post them, please feel free to add colour commentary to support any player you feel deserves it!

Anybody who has someone in December theyd like to nominate for player of the
Month - as December is a short month tennis wise and competition is relatively sparse, December will be combined with January 2023. Ill put a December / January nominations thread up after Xmas / early Jan, so please put any nominations down here for now with supporting reason and Ill transpose them in to the thread when ready. I dont want to put the thread up just now to avoid confusion years and months and also with the player of the season votes!

Just a reminder - voting groups will be posted at circa 10am, 2 pm, 6 pm and 10 pm today. Just basic factual bios for each player based on ITF player profiles last night - its possible they may be out of date overnight as I did the records yesterday.

if you spot any errors comment in a post or if you want to add detail or context around a players achievements to support the player to others voting , go ahead !

So, having teased elsewhere , I decided I may as well get it over with. Sadly, I am stopping running Player of the Month and Player of the Season. I have loved every minute of it and done it for 3 years now. My work and life is getting busier, having gone from being self employed as a consultant, I am now working full time and travelling a lot more.

I am sure it can be run differently to how I have done it, but I throw myself into this and commit a lot of time. My bad, probably, but I know no other way - as such, I cant really keep it up.

So as of the end of the Player of Season vote, tomorrow, I will hand over the reigns. If you would like to take it over, feel you can do the job and take it on, please, please do. I think I have brought a few ideas to this forum - the Strongest Nation started in my head a few years back, which others and now Strongbow do such a great job of taking forwards. The various prediction polls around slams or polls around favourite players; and the PoM and PoS process. But I need someone else to take them on if they are to a) survive b) more importantly, grow and develop, as I feel I have my way of doing things, which could no doubt be bettered.

If it is you that could take them on - have a think, and post your thoughts here. I will let you all decide who can do it, my time is over.

But if you want an idea of how I have done it, here is a summary:

1) Player of the Month nominations - start of each month, post a thread and then through the month encourage others to add names to the nominations list and curate the list

2) Player of Month votes - each month hold a poll with all the nominations above and manage the voting process; easy it seems but I tend to spend a lot of time cajoling and pushing for votes - advertising etc - which may or may not be needed. We have had 11 of these votes each year. We can have max 20 people in a poll on this site, so occasionally have split these into rounds to get to a final

3) Player of the Season - in December , run a series of votes to determine the PoS. Easy, maybe, but I also manage the qualifying process - PoM winners and runners up; other criteria like being #1 in the disciplines (singles, doubles, junior boys and girls, wheelchairs); one or two other criteria. We have 28 players end up qualifying so these end up getting split into rounds to hone in on a winner.

It doesnt need to be done like this, indeed, I am sure if someone has some vision, it can be developed!

Meanwhile - not leaving the board, just passing the baton. Please , please vote in the final - I would love to see it rach 50 votes, dont expect it to, but would be a lovely way to go out.

I have enjoyed every minute and hope someone comes forward with the vision, love and time to nurture it and take it forwards.

Jon x

You've done a great job, Jon

I seem to remember Indy saying he'd be up for it, to take it on.

But whoever does (and didn't mean to land you in it, Indy ), you've left it in a very healthy way.

Hope the new job is going OK
